ABOUT THE TEMPLE OF FLUX
The Temple of Flux for Burning Man 2010 is a collaboration between Rebecca Anders, Jess Hobbs, and Peter Kimelman. Inspired by natural landforms such as slot canyons these designers have approached the creation of The Temple not as a building but as forms creating place.
The Temple team is a growing collection of individuals from a wide range of Burning Man communities including: the Flaming Lotus Girls, SpaceCowboys, House of Lotus, DeepEnd/Distrikt, Brass Tax, DPW, DSC, Neuroweapon, and Temple Crew members from years past. Through the Temple, we’re building new and thriving working relationships and friendships, growing in ways that we never could have imagined.
The Temple is making possible an opportunity to build community in Black Rock City and beyond, gathering the skills, knowledge and resources of many long-time Burning Man crews. We welcome you to join us in this adventure! To get involved, visit www.temple2010.org!

We’ve got skills saws, table saws, and—for the softer side of Burning Man—sewing machines and paint brushes galore.
There’s going to be a hearty BBQ (with plenty o’ vegan options) smack dab in the middle of the day, so if you can’t make the whole event, please do plan on joining the whole décor team for chatting and chomping.
If you can, please RSVP to LeeAnna@BurningMan.com so we can make sure to have enough yummy food. Gracias!

Friday, July 16th
8:15pm
Castro Theatre
429 Castro Street
San Francisco, CA 94114-2019
"Maybe you’ve heard the buzz about METROPOLIS: the incredible discovery of long-lost footage from director Fritz Lang’s masterpiece. Found in a vault in Buenos Aires, the complete film has been reconstructed and restored by the F.W. Murnau Foundation and had its world premiere at the Berlin Film Festival.
The surprise is that we will present the San Francisco screening of this gorgeous and complete restored version at our 15th Anniversary festival in July, accompanied by the world-renowned Alloy Orchestra!
We are thrilled to be able to bring this to you and cannot wait to celebrate METROPOLIS as both a silent masterpiece and a testament to the value of film preservation."

*** Call for Submissions: Put Your Art in the Cafe at BM2010! ***
Greetings Burning World!
How would you like to place your art in the biggest, most populated structure on the Playa? That's right! You have the opportunity to show off your talent & ideas in Center Camp Cafe for Burning Man 2010!
Help us enhance this environment and engage your fellow Black Rock Citizens as they sit and mingle in this most popular of hot spots on the Playa. We are looking for art in all shapes and sizes! If you have a sculpture that would get lost in the great open playa, but might be appreciated in a more intimate setting, please let us know! Or if you have a larger piece that would work perfectly in one of our "alcove" areas around the perimeter of the Cafe, we'd love to hear about it!
AND did you know, starting last year, we now host a GIGANTIC two-dimensional wall art gallery to show paintings, photographs, and whatever you can hang on a board? If you are a painter or photographer and always felt lost in giant art world on the Playa, now is your opportunity to shine and be a part of our KIOSK project. The works must fit into a 48" x 48" space and extend no further than 12" from the kiosk surface. To see pictures of the Kiosk spaces, and other parts of the Cafe, see Flickr gallery here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/32065929@N05/4590473966/in/set-72157624020135956/
To be a part of this beautiful and exciting environment, please submit an application by filling out our on-line form: http://tinyurl.com/CAFE-ART-HOME
Once you've done that, someone will get back to you to talk about your project.
For questions, please e-mail cafe-art@burningman.com
Thanks!

CENTER CAMP CAFÉ PERFORMANCE STAGE, AERIAL & 2010 SPEAKER SERIES CALL FOR PARTICIPATION:
The Café is a community venue that reflects the deep-seated nature that is a Metropolis! It bursts with a universe of art and unusual performances. A musical stage features participants an incredible range of exciting performances, from hip-hop to rock, opera to marching bands and instrumental to funk. A spoken word stage features poetry readings, soap-box rants, comedy, slam poetry and theatrical productions.
1) Are you a live music performer with original music (no covers please), magician, thespian, comedian, dancer, aerialist, MC, or Marching Band in search of a stage? Well, we have one to offer and spots are going fast!
a. For your spoken word/comedy/soap-box stylings: magenta@burningman.com
b. For musical performances: cafe-music@burningman.com
c. For the Marching Band March Off (Friday Night 9pm): sleepless@burningman.com
d. For aerial performances(scheduled from 5:30pm-6pm daily): karl@burningman.com
e. For MCing (scheduled from 5pm-1am daily in 2-4 hour shifts): sleepless@burningman.com
f. For all other types of performances: cafe-performance@burningman.com
2) Are you an expert on a subject? Would you like to share your Brain? The stage is not just for music anymore!
We will be featuring the Speaker Series, Tuesday through Saturday from 11:30am-12:30pm . These are mostly half-hour slots.
Special priority will be given to subjects relating to this year's Metropolis theme or to subjects of particular interest to a broad spectrum of Burning Man participants.
If interested send a description of the talk idea and your ‘expert’ credentials to cafe-performers@burningman.com
Note that these talks should be educational without endorsing a product or specific group. Whether you speak or not, stop by for some fantastic nourishment!
Volunteer Call-Out:
We are still looking for Stage managers, Sound technicians and the ever-so-valued Gear Gods to come contribute their attributes to our stage!
Let me know which position is best suited to your undeniable pool of talents- Read on and then ACT!
Please email me, themitch@burningman.com with any questions you have about volunteering here at the Cafe Stage(s)!
All shifts are only 4 hours long and they fly by with an average of five to ten acts per shift! If you are interested in coming to play in the Café, meeting really talented, funny, strange and creative people, and work with some amazing artists, this is the place to be. We would love to have you on our team!
a. Sound Technicians: People who love music. Love mixing it. Love working with bands and have prior experience with live sound engineering. It does not matter if it was in a tiny dive club or a giant venue so long as you know your stuff and are ready for a challenge of teching in a dust storm. ;)
b. Gear Gods: Essentially people who know sound equipment, enjoy the weirdness of the professional sound technician, and who can lift 50lbs without hurting yourself (or anyone else for that matter). Do you know how to plug a mic into a snake? If you don’t this probably is not your ideal position.
c. Stage Managers: Engaged, flexible, organized, detail people who can field questions from random people as well as bands who are scheduled to perform. You are the reason the stage runs on time. Or anywhere close to time. You get to be lord and master of the “GO’ button. No previous experience required… we can help you learn!
Come out and play. At the Center Camp Café stage!

*** Donate Your Crystal Geyser Water Bottles to the Center Camp Café ***
This just in from the 2010 Burning Man Cafe Decor Crew...
Hello Events Producers, Fundraiser Planners, and Party Planners (and EVERYONE else, too!)!!!
The Cafe Decor Crew has Metropolis-sized plans of turning the 2010 Center Camp Cafe into a buzzing, electrified Metropolis and we need YOUR help to do it.
If you are throwing a party or event this summer (or if you're just buying for your home or office), PLEASE buy CRYSTAL GEYSER brand 16.9 oz. water bottles or ANY other brand that uses the SAME EXACT SHAPE as CRYSTAL GEYSER
you can see bottle pix a @
http://tinyurl.com/2bu937u
We are collecting THOUSANDS of Crystal Geyser water bottles with the intention of morphing them into electrical conduit to run throughout the playa. After the event is over, ALL the bottles will be recycled from whence they came. Crystal Geyser bottle shape is the ONLY type that works because their body is straight and they have the same continuous ridges from top to bottom so they can interlock with one another.
NO SQUISHED bottles please!
To arrange pick up for your donations (if you are Bay Area-based), or if you have any burning questions answered, call or email Phoenix at:

You can also mail or drop off your donations to the Burning Man Headquarters, located conveniently in San Francisco at:
BMHQ
3450 Third Street, Suite #2A
San Francisco, CA 94124

Thank you again for your energy and efforts with this project!
See you in the dust!
