destruction of Appalachia & its accompanying toll on air, water, & lives of
Appalachians.

SCREENING OF "A YEAR IN REVOLUTIONARY HIP HOP" & SHOW

Come out to Station 40 to watch the new film, "A Year in Revolutionary Hip Hop
in the Central Valley," and see live music from SF anarchist hip hop artist
Eddie Falcone.
The film details various community events, concerts, and struggles, that
include hip hop artists in the Modesto area. From occupied foreclosed homes in
Stockton, to unpermitted graffiti festi...vals in Modesto, the turntable and
the mike is becoming another weapon along side the molotov. Members of the
Revolutionary Hip Hop Report and Modesto Anarcho Crew will be on hand to talk
about the film and the various struggles that are highlighted within it.
$5-20 donation will be asked, with all money going to benefit those facing
legal battles in Modesto.

There are one million Gypsies, or Rom, in America, who most people know nothing
about. Never before has a camera been allowed in to explore their world. Shot
over the course of five years, this feature documentary tells the lyrical tale
of one Romani family in the United States who have broken the wall of secrecy
surrounding their people. "AMERICAN GYPSY" follows the story of Jimmy Marks, a
flamboyant community leader who becomes passionately obsessed with fighting a
civil rights battle to defend his family, his history and his honor. His
journey carries us into the Romani culture with scenes of Gypsies from around
the world celebrating New Year in Las Vegas; the arranged marriage of
teenagers; and car salesmen in Stetson hats driving Cadillacs.
AMERICAN GYPSY is a glimpse of an immigrant world that is either on the verge
of extinction or at a critical turning point for survival. It is a world that
most of us have never had the chance to visit because this is the first time it
is being presented on screen.

Our second Bay Area Anarchist Salon will address the question, "As anarchists,
we want to create a society without hierarchy. If we hope to operate hospitals
and other high-stakes institutions in nonhierarchical ways in a
postrevolutionary future, what anarchist practices now or in the near term
might convince people that this is possible?" The conversation will be
initiated by Dan Spalding (most recently, Midnight Special Legal Collective)
and a second person (to be announced soon), and will be moderated by Cindy
Milstein (Institute for Anarchist Studies) and Loren (UA in the Bay).

The Station 40 Events Committee is pleased to announce the second Bay Area
Anarchist Salon, a new monthly facilitated conversation by and for anarchists.
Our aim is to encourage critical yet constructive dialogue and comradely debate
concerning the difficult strategic questions that we face as we try to engage
in social transformation; to develop a culture of reconstruction and vision
alongside a culture of resistance; and to build more trust and understanding
among the diverse anarchist perspectives. Our hope is that through ongoing
discussions related to contemporary organizing dilemmas--discussions that focus
on ideas not people, and strive to develop a culture of kindness in how we
grapple with key strategic issues--our various projects and organizing efforts,
within and outside anarchist circles, will become stronger, smarter, and more
effective.
The format each month will be as follows: we'll announce a question for each
Bay Area Anarchist Salon in advance. At the salon, we'll do a go-round for
people to quickly introduce themselves. Then one or two people, chosen in
advance, will kick off the conversation by offering their thoughts on the
question for five to ten minutes each. Two moderators will then facilitate a
participatory conversation, striving to ensure that the discussion stays on
point, and that everyone feels comfortable to speak, no one speaks too much,
and all feel heard and respected. Each salon will last two hours, starting
promptly at 7:00 p.m., but we encourage people to hang out informally
afterward.
The third Bay Area Anarchist Salon will be on Wednesday, October 6.
