The U.S. occupation of Iraq has led to 4000 American deaths and roughly 30,000 injuries. Hundreds of thousands of Iraqis have died and millions are homeless. Spending on the war thus far has been $457,984,243,792.
While most Americans oppose the war, there is no end in sight.
If we want the destruction and waste to stop, we have to take to the streets in protest in large numbers. This is the only way our elected officials will realize that their perpetuation of the war will end their political careers.
For this reason, a wide array of groups have come together to organize a series of major demonstrations this fall. One of these actions will be a protest and march in San Francisco on Saturday, October 27th. We'll start at the Civic Center at 11am and later march to Dolores Park.

Lights Out San Francisco is a grassroots community group organizing a citywide energy savings event on Saturday, October 20, 2007, from 8-9 p.m. On this night, we invite the entire city of San Francisco, including schools, businesses, city and federal government agencies, churches, and individuals to turn off all non-essential lighting to save energy. The Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and much of downtown will be turning off their lights.

When: Sunday, October 14th. 10:30am until we feel like we're done. You may stay as long as you like, but there will be occasional drop offs at public transportation stations if you'd like to leave before we stop.

Lights Out San Francisco is a grassroots community group organizing a citywide energy savings event on Saturday, October 20, 2007, from 8-9 p.m. On this night, we invite the entire city of San Francisco, including schools, businesses, city and federal government agencies, churches, and individuals to turn off all non-essential lighting to save energy. The Bay Bridge, Golden Gate Bridge, Alcatraz and much of downtown will be turning off their lights.

What: Passing out CFLs and info, asking businesses for permission to put up LOSF posters in their windows. There will be music and water provided, but please feel free to bring food and libations. If you choose to drink, we trust you will do so responsibly, as you will be representing LOSF.
When: Sunday, October 14th. 10:30am until we feel like we're done. You may stay as long as you like, but there will be occasional drop offs at public transportation stations if you'd like to leave before we stop.
Where: Meet at the LOSF office at 2548 Mission St. (between 21st & 22nd), where there will be a brief orientation.

We are also distributing 110,000 free energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs) throughout the city. Our goal is to raise awareness and educate San Franciscans about the small changes they can make to fight climate change.
