Cheap oil is now a thing of the past. As a result, the world is entering a new era of shrinking energy resources and heightened competition for remaining supplies. Richard Heinberg, widely regarded as one of America's foremost Peak Oil educators, will discuss the most recent evidence regarding the timing of the global production peak, its likely consequences, and what can be done at both the international and local levels to prepare for the event and mitigate the impacts.

What are the general likely and possible directions for cultural adaptation to Peak Oil? Is Peak Oil likely to lead to a collapse of society analogous to the collapse of previous civilizations? If so, what should individuals and communities be doing to ensure survival and the preservation of cultural achievements for future generations? Heinberg will explore what some towns and cities are already doing to assess their vulnerabilities and plan for a future with less energy. Co-sponsored with the Pacific Energy Center.
