Mohammed Khatib is a leading member of the Bil’in Village Popular Committee Against the Wall and the Secretary of the Bil’in Village Council in the West Bank. He has been a principal organizer of the two-year, creative nonviolent struggle in Bil’in to prevent the construction of Israel’s Wall on Bil’in land and to block the expansion of neighboring Israeli settlements.
Feryal Abu Haikal recently retired after 11 years as the headmistress at Kortuba School in the ancient heart of the West Bank city of Hebron. Although settlers have attacked students and staff, the Kortuba School continues to function, serving as a model of nonviolent resistance to Israeli occupation. A lifelong resident of Tel Rumeida, Feryal remains in her home with her family despite settler efforts to expel them and armed incursions onto her property.

HEALTH CARE “FAIR”
PROMOTING SINGLE-PAYER HEALTH CARE
Hill Community Room at 1560 Hill Road in Novato.
There will be booths, games, a skit, a raffle, speakers, and face painting and other children’s entertainment provided by Lauren Lees. Barrie Massie, Chief of Cardiology at the SF Veterans Affairs Medical Center, will be among the speakers.
There will also be health care professionals on hand with information on such subjects as weight control and pharmaceuticals, but the main focus is on educating attendees on why, in this year when competing health insurance reforms are dominating the agenda in Sacramento, a single-payer system is still by far the best option
Booths at the fair will offer such games as Health Jeopardy and Not-So-Trivial Pursuits. A short program will be held at 2:15, and various speakers will appear intermittently. A 3-minute version of “The Healthcare Solution” video will be shown continuously, accompanied by popcorn and lemonade. There is no admission charge. For more information, call 717-9053.

On March 17–18, 2007, tens of thousands of people will be marching in the streets of San Francisco in what will be the largest antiwar protests since 50,000 people demonstrated in September 2005. March 17–18 will be Global Days of Action against war and occupation with demonstrations taking place in hundreds of cities around the world to mark the fourth anniversary of the start of the "shock and awe" invasion of Iraq. Anti-war organizations are calling for mass demonstrations in Washington, D.C., Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago and other cities and towns throughout the United States as anti-war actions take place throughout the world on this global day of action. MPJC urges that everyone in the antiwar movement come together in unity against the criminal actions of the U.S. government. In San Francisco, the march and rally will take place on Sunday, March 18. (The annual St. Patrick's Day Parade is taking place on Sat., March 17 in SF.)

They pursue the dream of a lifetime, thanks to Cuba’s generous offer of 500 full scholarships which includes: tuition, books and room and board.
Upon graduation, they will honor their commitment to practice medicine in underserved areas in the US.
The ultimate goal of this collaboration is to set up a pipeline that will return well trained, community-oriented Black, Latino, Native American and Asian doctors to serve medically underserved communities in the US.
