Along the same lines, in an article I posted to m.a.p a few weeks ago:
Re: [progchat_action] When Will We Ever Learn?
This is an articulate restatement of sentiments that I've heard
about every corrupt orgy of bloodletting since the vietnam war.
But the question "when will we ever learn?" is poorly conceived.
Every generation which has lived through fascistic corporo-government
deceit and toxic mythology has had to learn, one way or another.
The problem is in the "forgetting."
At the risk of stating the obvious, "we," as used in this rhetorical
question, is not a well-defined static group of people, but a
multiple-generational flow of humanity. The question should be:
why are multiple generations making the same mistakes over and over
again? The answer is clear: each generation is misled by the
economically-driven mass marketed mythology of the popular culture
they inhabit, and actively deceived by the educational system
entrusted with the sacred task of teaching them the accumulated
wisdom of prior generations. The painful fact is that children
have been and are being systematically deceived, exploited and
abused by the very institutions charged with their nurturing and
protection. They have been abandoned to the mercy of an indoctrination
system which is embedded in an economic and political system which
thrives on their exploitation as soldiers, baby factories and
technocrats. In all likelyhood, by the time they understand this,
they will have already wasted many years of their lives feeding
this monster.
We have collectively, over many generations, allowed the creation
of a self-perpetuating social system which relies heavily on the
ruthless exploitation, not only of the weak by the powerful, but
more importantly, of the young by the old. Each generation whittles
away at the environmental and economic security of subsequent
generations. Ours is a system of self-perpetuating child abuse,
which treats children as little more than a renewable resource.
Recognizing this fact and exploring the means by which the system
sustains itself over multiple generations is crucial if we're ever
going to do something about it.

"In making any law, our chiefs must always consider three things:
the effect of their decision on peace; the effect on the natural
world; and the effect on seven generations in the future. We believe
that all lawmakers should be required to think this way, that all
constitutions should contain these rules.
"We call the future generations 'the coming faces'. We are told that
we can see the faces of our children to come in the rain that is
falling, and that we must tread lightly on the earth, for we are
walking on the faces of our children yet to come."
