FILM May 10: 7pm Loss of Liberty - How to help survivors of Israel's attack on the US
On June 8, 1967, the Israeli Air Force attacked and almost sank the USS Liberty. 34 American sailors lost their lives and 174 were wounded. That was also the date the cover-up began, and the survivors need help even now to gain the recognition and rights that have been denied to them.
Please attend a showing of "Loss of the Liberty" and learn what we can do to support the survivors in their struggle for their rights in the U.S. armed forces and in the public discourse. We hope to have one of the survivors present to lead a discussion.

An Introduction to War Tax Resistance Thur May 10 7:30 PM - 9:30 PM
Unitarian Universalists of San Mateo 300 E. Santa Inez San Mateo, CA 94402
Speaker Mike Caggiano smpa [at] sanmateopeaceaction.org 510-843-9877
Do you oppose the war? Why help pay for it?
More than half of our federal income taxes are used for militarism, but for people whose conscience will not allow them to willingly support war and military funding, there may be an answer. On Thursday evening, May 10, find out more about how to conduct this form of conscientious objection.
Peace Action of San Mateo County will host Susan Quinlan from Northern California War Tax Resistance, who will talk about the variety of ways we as citizens can avoid paying taxes that support our country's war effort. Whether income or long distance phone tax, there are ways for citizens to follow their conscience and avoid - initially at least - supporting situations such as the disastrous Iraq war and occupation and the possible duplication in Iran. Many of these methods are completely legal.
The presentation will include a slide show, personal stories, methods and consequences, questions and answers. There will be a variety of literature available as well.
Topics will include:
- Creative legal protests
- Refusing to pay all or part of federal taxes
- Possible consequences of this form of civil disobedience
- Living below the level of taxable income
- Phone tax resistance
- Redirecting resisted taxes to local alternative funds and/or community organizations
- Local support networks for war tax resisters
Come find out about the what, why and how of war tax resistance - just one more way to oppose the war and militarism in general.

Dolores Park Movie Night: Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
Thursday, May 10, 2007 8:30-10PM 20th St @ Dolores St
Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) Live Entertainment at 7 pm
The original, starring Gene Wilder. "It's Scrumdiddlyumptious!"
Enter a world or pure imagination, here every kid's dream comes true.
Charlie Bucket is a poor boy living with his mother and four bedridden grandparents. Charlie is bravely struggling to support his family (including delivering newspapers after school) when he wins a tour of Willy Wonkas world famous Chocolate Factory.
Parents in todays world would never let their kids to visit some creep named Willie who has a candy factory, but I digress.
Things are not as they seem, however, and as each child receives his Everlasting Gobstopper, his individual morality play comes to life.
Will Charlie make it out of the factory? What will he do with his Everlasting Gobstopper? And what the heck are those creepy Oompa Loompas really up to? Find all the answers, and more at the next Dolores Park Movie Night!

NO GAS...On May 15th 2007
Don't pump gas on may 15th
...in April 1997, there was a "gas out" conducted nationwide in protest of gas prices. Gasoline prices dropped 30 cents a gallon overnight.
On May 15th 2007, all internet users are to not go to a gas station in protest of high gas prices. Gas is now over $3.00 a gallon in most places.
There are 73,000,000+ American members currently on the internet network, and the average car takes about 30 to 50 dollars to fill up.
If all users did not go to the pump on the 15th, it would take
$2,292,000,000.00 (that's almost 3 BILLION) out of the oil companys pockets for just one day, so please do not go to the gas station on May 15th and lets try to put a dent in the Middle Eastern oil industry for at least one day.
If yo u agree (which I cant see why you wouldnt) resend this to all your contact list. With it saying, ''Don't pump gas on May 15th"
EXTRA CREDIT: do not pump gas the next day or the next week.
MORE CREDIT: walk, bike, carpool, consolidate your errands.
THINK more. Consume less.

Pools for Berkeley is exploring the idea to build an aquatic center, possibly at the site of the former Adult School on University -- that would be heated, open year-round, have a circular slide, a jacuzzi, and other bells and whistles for kids and adults. We'd like to incorporate as many "green-building" practices as possible (solar, etc.)
There'll be a meeting to hear and discuss possibilities. Please come and
contribute your ideas! Tue May 15 at 7 pm

*Where: Pioneer Log Cabin, Golden Gate Park, San Francisco.
*When: SATURDAY JUNE 16th, 2007, 11am-6pm.
*How: By Car, Bike, Bus or Foot. The Log Cabin area is plainly visible
from the 'Y' where Stowe Lake Drive branches off of JFK. It is just to
the west of the new DeYoung.
*Due to the new saturday parking policy in GGP, JFK will be closed
near our site, this could impact parking, so it is recommended that
you take tranist or carpool. Riding your bike is great too, especially
if you are carrying a covered dish. And less cars is more green,
right! Golden Gate Park Map: http://tinyurl.com/c4qdn
