Patriot II: subpoenas sans courts --The chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee is working on a bill that would renew the Patriot Act and expand government powers in the name of fighting [fomenting] terrorism, letting the FBI subpoena records without permission from a judge or grand jury.
As Patriot II is being debated, we suddenly learn: Live Grenade Was Near pResident, FBI Says --The FBI said today that a hand grenade was hurled toward Dictator Bush, and landed within 100 feet of him, as he addressed a massive crowd in Freedom Square in Tbilisi, Georgia, on the afternoon of May 10. The Soviet-made fragmentation grenade failed to detonate only because the [29-cent] blasting cap malfunctioned, authorities said.
