Morning: Tour of the Sustainable Backyard and Permaculture 101 slide show with Geoff Hall and Kamala Bennett of Sentient Landscape. www.sentientlandscape.com.
Afternoon: All hands-on projects including: building an herb spiral, setting up a water reclamation system with a swale, starting a worm bin and permaculture planting for habitat and food.
Sustainable Fairfax began its Sustainable Backyard Class in early September of 2006 at the future site of its Sustainability Center on Bolinas Road in Fairfax. Taught by Sentient Landscape designers Kamala Bennett and Geoff Hall, participants are learning different techniques that they can use in their own backyards. Classes included harvesting water, growing live soil, composting, mulching, creating habitat, wildlife diversity, integrated pest management, using recycled materials, and solar features in the garden.

California Clean Money Campaign
There will be a showing of a Bill Moyers’ video on the subject for newcomers at 9:45. We will be joined by the California Clean Money Campaign’s Field Organizer, Daniel I. Medress, who will update us on federal, state, and local Clean Money developments.
The California Clean Money Campaign works to establish public funding for elections, and a bill to establish such a system for legislators and statewide office holders has been reintroduced this year, again as AB 583. CCMC is also working with activists throughout the State on publicly financed elections at the local level, including Marin County.
“Publicly financed elections were established nearly a decade ago in Maine and Arizona and are working well (and other states are in various stages of adopting them as well), with more candidates running and winning ‘clean,’ more women and people of color winning seats, greater voter turnout and confidence in the integrity of lawmakers, and resulting legislation that would otherwise have been blocked by special interests,” said Greg Brockbank, coordinator of the California Clean Money Campaign’s Marin Working Group.

Iraq war resisters Agustin Aguayo and Pablo Paredes, along with \"people power\" activist & author David Solnit, will speak at the College of Marin on Wednesday evening, May 9, 2007.
AGUSTIN AGUAYA was recently released from a military prison in Germany, where he was serving a sentence for refusing to be re-deployed to Iraq. Aguayo served on tour of duty in Iraq, refusing to load his weapon, while he waited for the Army to process his conscientious objector application. The Army did not act on his application and rather than return to Iraq, Aguayo went AWOL.
PABLO PAREDES was a Petty Officer in the Navy when he refused deployment to Iraq, having been refused discharge as a conscientious objector. He was convicted of being AWOL and of missing movement.
DAVID SOLNIT is a founding member of Courage to Resist and an
internationally-known \"people power\" activist using art and street
theater to confront and subvert the system. He will be speaking about
his new book An Army of None (co-authored with Gulf War resister Aimee Allison).

Marine Bioacoustics and Ocean Noise Pollution
A Seaflow Schools Presentation featuring
Lucia Comnes, Seaflow’s Education Outreach Coordinator: presents an evening of lecture, discussion, poetry and music in honor of the ocean and sea creatures.
Beginning with the performance of an original poem that transmits the essence ocean noise issues, Lucia will follow with an engaging and informative power point presentation through the terrain of marine bioacoustics and ocean noise pollution. Rich imagery and underwater recordings take us into the ocean realm where we explore how sea creatures have adapted to thrive in an acoustic environment. We will examine the major sources of human-generated sounds at sea and their impacts on marine life. We will briefly discuss the recent and current policy on ocean noise issues, and the role that Seaflow: Protect Our Living Oceans, is taking to inspire action and responsibility from the community. The evening will close with some live music – Lucia will make sure everyone leaves with the sound of violin echoing in their ears.

1) To explore the possibility of forming a Marin 9/11 Truth group to meet on an ongoing basis.
2) To generate awareness and support for an upcoming event June 15th in Marin with a leading light in the 9/11 truth movement, Dr. Bob Bowman.
3) To co-create a three part 9/11 Truth film series at the Lark Theater.
At this Marin meeting, we will explore the level of interest in starting a more regional Marin County/North Bay group, and if there is sufficient interest, when and where we might meet and what folks are interested in doing. Two general possibilities are a) a discussion/education group exploring evidence and other points of interest around 9/11, and b) an activist group to plan and do activities supporting 9/11 Truth. Depending on interest, there could be alternate meetings for each option, or a combined meeting with both agendas.

Guest speaker Drew Dellinger, a spoken word poet, teacher and activist, will join with Unity musicians to awaken our hearts and call forth the creativity needed in each of us to fashion a new vision of caring for all creation and all people. Artwork from the “Artfully Reclaimed” show at the Novato Arts Center Gallery will be on display in the sanctuary.

Annual Meeting and Dinner
Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 240 Channing Way, San Rafael. Beverages and socializing will begin at 6pm, followed by a catered dinner from West End Cafe at 7pm, with the meeting and keynote speaker starting at 7:30pm.
Keynote speaker: Heidi Kuhn, founder and CEO of Roots of Peace, is our dynamic keynote speaker this year. Heidi Kuhn was deeply inspired in September 1997 to create an organization dedicated to the eradication of landmines worldwide. With a simple toast in the living room of her home that the world may go from Mines to Vines, a global initiative was launched from the heart of a mother of four children following the death of the late Princess Diana who catapulted the issue of landmines to the forefront of the international agenda.
The Task Forces of the Social Justice Center will give brief reports, and current board members will be introduced. We hope to have new board members to introduce and vote on as well. Our newly founded Advisory Board will be welcomed and introduced also.
Admission is $45 with no one turned away for lack of funds.

A panel will offer practical suggestions about green building, organic foods, zero waste, cutting energy, green transportation, conserving water, and community involvement. Break-out groups with panelists will follow.
