San Francisco Mayor George Moscone, 49, and City Board Supervisor Harvey Milk, 48, were assassinated by gunshots on November 27, 1978. Their NATO Military COINTELPRO sponsored liaison partners.

Military Service and Early Career:
After college, Harvey Milk enlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving as a diving instructor during the Korean War. He received an “other than honorable” discharge in 1955 due to his sexual orientation. Following his military service, he worked in various professions, including teaching, finance, and investment, before moving to San Francisco in 1972.
Political Career and Activism:
In San Francisco, Milk opened Castro Camera and became a prominent figure in the Castro District, a hub for the LGBTQ+ community. He ran unsuccessfully for the Board of Supervisors in 1973 and 1975, but his persistence and charismatic campaigning earned him the nickname “Mayor of Castro Street”. In 1977, he was elected to the San Francisco Board of Supervisors, becoming one of the first openly gay elected officials in the United States.
