Harbin is less than $ cost of Orr Wilbur SierraVille and IMHO offers the most complete and widely varied facilities and blissfully serene experience
All while having the opportunity to commune with friends on yoga deck patios kitchen, more.
This was a highlight for me for decades as I would debrief with friends after earthdance, harmony festival etc. share next festival plans.

Nudity is the norm at Harbin. Simply natural.
Silence is also the norm. Nature is enough.
*clothing is always required in our food service areas, yoga classes, Reception office, Health Services office, and anywhere within sight of the public road along our creek.

Women’s solitude, safety
Dressing room provides wooden bead necklaces for women or individuals who wish not to be approached or spoken to. Yet Harbin is relatively safe for women in the first place as privacy solitude silence and safety are held in high regard.

Hot & Cold Plunges
Hot Cold plunges and med temp drinking fountain are fresh untreated springwater.
All other water at Harbin is chlorinated per health dept. Kitchen water is filtered.
Sorry, my info is re: pre 2015 fire loss & closure.

Harbin Hot Cold Plunge
3 cycles of hot cold plunge provides vascular expansion (hot) and contraction (cold) of blood vessels for therapeutic flush. See also:
“alleged therapeutic benefits of soaking in hot water“
- Deward Hastings RIP Essex Hot Tub Berkeley

My body loves hot water. Not so much cold.
I choose to start in hot water. Most start cold.

Same as swimming in pool, empty stomach for me in hot cold plunge.
I always do laps in pool, then hot cold plunge upon arrival after plentiful showers adjacent to pools & dressing room.

Hot plunge temp varies. I’m told 112-115F 44.5-46C seek feedback on actual temps, ranges. Also bites my skin on hot side sometimes, varies. Coming from cold plunge helps.
Some folks inch in cautiously. I plunge fully if alone. Same with cold.
If alone I enter in 1 second on both hot and cold. If others soak I enter slowly so as not to disturb their water convection or meditative state.
I could write a book about Harbin, a chapter about hot & cold plunge.

Physiology
Cold plunge varies in temp, always over 55’F
I guess approx 57-60F? 14-15.5C. How do I know?
55’F 12.8C stings my skin. 5x’ causes my lungs to feel locked. Harbin is above both of those thresholds.
Cougar Hotsprings Oregon lake does BOTH to my bod in June.
Seek to ask if doctors or medical professionals have advice on standard thresholds for people for these two biological effects
Ie : at what temp do lungs feel to tighten?
At what temp does cold water bite your skin?

Inaccurate: my experience of 55’ water temp is per NOAA weather data of monitoring station located between Fort Mason and Aquatic Park SF while I was swimming at baker beach SF

Convert 55 Fahrenheit to Celsius
55 Fahrenheit (°F) = 12.7778 Celsius (°C)
1 °F = -17.2222 °C. 1 °C = 33.8 °F

2 or 3 approaches to ENTER cold plunge. And hot
1: Instant: walk in briskly descending steps to neck or scalp full immersion
2: Slow: inch your way in
3: in between I opt for 1: instant when alone.

2 or 3 approaches to STAY cold plunge. And hot
1: Stillness. Meditative. Maximizes time endurance.

1: stillness affords a sheen of protection, layer of lukewarm warm water near your skin to moderate your temperature osier
Insulation if you will

2: Swimming or stretching your arms and leg, as in breaststroke, will break the sheen and expedite more rapid cooling or heating of your blood vessels and body

3: shades of in between occur when
A person rapidly enters plunges causing convection
You or others move to accommodate others

1: I did this to test endurance in cold plunge
Pretend I am lost at sea in plane crash all alone
Climb into cargo box to reduce disruptive waves
Pretzel my body; hug myself. Cross and double cross my legs. Assume fetal pretzel position, maximizing insulation of blood and core body temperature for maximum time of exposure.
This was a fun test to see how long I could last in Coldwater exposure

Cue to cycle
In all cases, I simply stay in cold plunge until my body shivers.
This is my simple cue to cycle.

Hydrate.
Harbin 3rd spring is a ground surface temp source at drinking fountain and hose spigot on walkway to hot & cold plunge adjacent to warm pool
Imbibe of this nectar frequently and learn how blissful life can be

Sorry these hot and cold concepts are analogous to oven and freezer
If you pre thaw your item it will heat quickly

If you set your soup to cool on a cold conductive marble counter or cold burner, heat will wick away allowing you to freeze item quickly and reduce your energy bill.
Preheating oven is ridiculously offensive to carbon footprint and energy bill. TMI sorry
