20 year burner FAQ camp minivan Playa )’( BurningMan
     Shower
I Shower 3 or 4 x per day in the desert
1 morning
2 midday remove sweat and dust
3 evening to step into new fresh clean costume
4 4 AM costume shower, clean, slip into one of 10 fresh clean sheets

Shower over plenty cardboard using gallon water containers on roof in sun all day
Plenty water turned on or off different years at Donner pass rest stop, Chevron gas stations, Cabela’s sports dog washing station.

After event I dry and burn clean cardboard
Playafied cardboard can be composted.
Key is to have lots of cardboard to soak up water then evaporate and dry in hot sun

Fill. 5gal Water Bottles. CA i80 Donner
I Always travel, uphill light through California HWY 80 to save my engine and transmission
Examples of free water NV sources I used
Donner pass rest stop spigots back car up to
Boomtown Cabela’s outdoor dog wash station
Chevron water island Near air hose
Fill up water at gas station etc

5 gallon water cooler bottles ok Desert.
Are ok as they Hold 5 Gallons so water : plastic ratio is safer even though they are Type7.

1 gallon Clear Crystal Geyser bottles are ? Avg and made of PETE / PET 1 plastic that leeches less amount of micro plastics. Than 3 or 7
Minimize danger feel fresh store, cool shade

opaque blue or creamy white, 2.5 gallon HDPE 2 plastic bottles taste like plastic to me yuck.
hazardous to your health and taste like plastic

I thought # 1 2 4 5 Plastic recycle #s were safer to drink from. Visualize the four buttons on the top left of your phone pad. # 1 2 4 5. But #1 ? Eh

keep all plastics in a COOL DARK PLACE.
1 gallon PETE / PET 1 SENSITIVE to Heat
5 gallon Alhambra sensitive to UV
Just keep them all cool and dark.

Micro plastics shed over time X heat so
Minimize your osier by filling them fresh before you camp

Water bottles
Up Hwy 80 with empty 5 Gal clear blu water jugs and 1 gallon clear Crystal Geyser water bottles PET 1 PETE in their original box. As cardboard helps to catch spills. And keep water snug on rear floor of van over cardboard
Fill @ donner, boom town tap water or gas sta

Toss a gallon on top of van to catch SUN warm
For solar shower

I bring 12 18 or 24 empty crystal geyser, 1 gallon water bottles in their proper cardboard cases of six stacked in the back of my van on the floor over more cardboard, easily accessible when I lift the hatchback to fill with water after I clear summit of CA / NV to save my engine, transmission

I once bought 6 or 12 gallons of water at Empire Store and it attacked my teeth on contact.
Static electricity charged?
And my teeth were calcium or Fluoride stained afterwards BAD. Never again.
Cardboard boxes cases of 1 gallon plastic HDPE 2 aka milk jug type gallon bottles gross
Those leech too much plastic anyway.

Minivan shaded by 28’ olive parachute
4x8’ cargo space remove seats down to carpet
Add cardboard insulite camp pads/thermarest
3” memory foam. Fitted sheet. 10 flat sheets. Comforter.

Each night at 4 AM after fourth shower, I would slip into a new clean sheet one layer down

Sleep 4am-10am or noon
Arrive Desert. ID North Star. Find spot with tall shade to East. ie: semi trailer or tall tent but NOT noisy RV generator
Toss all my banana boxes and chicken boxes of towels clothing toiletries and less heat sensitive food up on roof
soft fluffy costumes in pillow cases
Http://planttrees.org for more as FB cuts text here
Cover van with parachute
Tie down to wheels, frame etc or even other boxes or gear near van to form tent / canopy.
Ideally leaving few inches under skirt for air flow.

Sleep soundly with both sliding doors not latched
Such that if too warm at 10 am then could simply slide 2 unlatched doors full open return to sleep 2 hours 10am-12 under gently blowing breeze of 28’ parachute

Boxes on roof lift parachute playa camp
Citi urban camping simply arrange a dozen of those chicken fryer boxes on the floor and sleep over them
Behind grocery stores, you’ll find banana boxes which are too tall and chicken fryer boxes where broiler chickens are shipped. They are approximate 18 x 24“ in varying heights of six 8 10 inches tall.
Super easy, then to just lift up whichever section of the memory, foam bed mattress needs lifting to access my towels, clothing soap, shampoo, food tools, gear, accessories from the appropriate box

     Stealth in default world city
Inside my dark tinted privacy glass. I also pin up black fabric on side, rear and side, then in a black bath towel behind the two front seat headrest. Such that my minivan appears clean and normal upfront presenting only a black void in the back.

4am Big Dipper as clock. Back to camp.
If you connect the dots at the big dipper from handle handle handle cup cup cup cup 2345 Northstar you can use the Ursa Major as a clock. that line is 45° at 10 PM vertical at 1 AM. 45° at 4 AM.
Now you have advanced warning at 4 AM before the sky starts to get light so you can get to camp get your head on a pillow and fall asleep before light
EAR PLUGS! Sleep mask for eyes wise I would add today though I seldom used there.

     Dairy
Most yogurts last months without refrigeration, and just as any yogurt you buy fresh in the store you know when you open it if some employee broke the seal or rough handled. by visible black or green culture, liquid or change of taste.
Unlike Pork Poultry raw eggs and meat,
Most dairy is safe. Especially yogurt + cheese
     Milk
Non fat milk lasts for weeks after date but has little nutritional value.
Whole milk has far more nutritional value but less stable.
Clover Stornetta Strauss TJs Safeway Berkeley Farms are hormone free. No BGH no rBST

Trader Joe’s milk has been hormone free since 2008 at least whereas Safeway did not follow suit and drop the hormones until 2012 if I have my dates right.
This means that all Safeway in-house brands of dairy are hormone free, including
Safeway. Lucerne. Safeway select.

Costco Kirkland vanilla ice cream is hormone free in northern California because those Costco stores regionally sourced from a local non-hormone dairy
Costco is an excellent resource on the healthier West Coast of USA California, Oregon And Washington asco actually sources local family farms and small business suppliers therefore
Costco often has local organic IPA beers, etc

Trader Joe’s has never allowed GMO‘s in their produce fruits or vegetables or in-house packaged foods so far
Trader Joe’s appears to be the healthiest of the larger food stores. I trust them as their in-house products historically have the simplest of ingredients and only real foods.

I have been hawkishly monitoring Trader Joe’s to see if and when they slip up
People often complain about TJ’s packaging plastic
But the only gripe quip qualm I have so far about TJ’s:
TJ corporate says they use BPA cash registerreceipts, which is a ruse.
TJ uses BPS cash register receipts, an analog of BPA,
BPS has simply so far evaded the more common public scrutiny BPA has received.

BPA is an endocrine, disruptor and hormone mimic.
BPS interrupts, fertility. Both are toxic.

EWG.org broke the story on BPA early 2010s
EWG cautioned, the use of hand sanitizer opens pores on your fingers, which allow BPA to enter your human body and never leave.

Oranges last very well apples less so hard boiled eggs last very well for 1 week. and those are the items I keep cool in the lower center of the van. Avocados
Do not toss your pickle water! Insert your peeled hard boiled eggs into jar of pickle juice preserve can last a month or months. If you are pro canning other foods then:
5% vinegar required for canning. Beware 4%

     Towels
I Would daily use one washcloth to shower and one hand towel to dry off
yesterday‘s dry hand towel, wraps around my bike seat with a large rubber band on post
Fresh and clean new seat cover every day!

     Hydrate
I would often suggest people Add two bottle holders to their bike. One for their coconut water, and one for their drank. But I would have three bottle holders on my bike no alcohol, just waters and coconut waters.
Prefer Klean Kanteen stainless steel for default sports as they are lead free.
But if you are filling your portable bottle daily there is less time for chemicals to leach

     Coconut water
TAS coconut water 16.9 oz of Hayward CA Thailand is pure and were one dollar each at golden veggie market
1475 Polk st SF at California St SW

     BIKE
2024 rugged Playa due to wet 2023 KayakMan
2024 requires cruiser or mountain bike with Wide tires more than ever
Golden spike photos show rough rutted, Playa
Bike. Cruiser best.
Mountain Bike great. cheap in June when students graduate. Bottle holders. Rear bike rack excellent
No front bike rack beware front weight affects ability to steer.
     Unpack. Post Burn
Day 1 Turn bike upside down. Garden hose the heck out of of the chain and gears.
Day 2. Or 3. Oil chain and cable sheaths.
Ok to drip remaining drops of motor oil from empty bottles onto chain as you crank pedal upside down. Use tiny oil bottle to send oil down your cables into their sheaths of brakes / shift.
Tiny bottle oil for derailleurs and brake hinges
     Get the bike.
FB CL Nextdoor for specialized TREK cannondale GT are TOP SHELF A
a good used bike will last decades longer than a crappy Walmart huffy C next or schwinn B
     Cruiser
Exception being Huffy Cranbrook 1 spd cruiser which you can leave on playa as BM )’( uses them solely as Green Bikes for free use as they have few moving parts to break.

Gears and shifters are OK at burning man. I never prep a bike before burning man and my bikes last many years at burning man what I do is when I unload unpack at home, I turn my bike upside down and hose the crap out of it specifically hydroblasting the gears and chain as I turn the pedals backwards to remove, all dirt and mud from the chain.
Let bikes sit in hot sun for a day or two and dry out
Then
My chain wight turn the pedals backwards. You can even use a 99% empty 1 pint oil, plastic bottle to dribble oil under your chain as you turn save all of those empty oil, plastic bottles for bike maintenance. Then I use a finer bottle to drip oil down the cables into the cable sheets Breaks and shifters. I also applied drops of oil to all hinge points on derailers and brakes.
Aftercare is all I’ve ever done for bikes on burning man. I’ve never done pre-care and I’ve done just fine

I’ve had multiple shifter bikes on Playa multiple years and not had a problem. I just hosed the crap out of the bike when I get home, let them sit in the sun for a day or two drying off and then I oil the chains and cables sheets Petals derailers

Https://burningman.org for camp travel and safety tips and FAQs
But I share self generated content above because it works and served me well in my 20 consecutive years of playa fun adventure

     Esplanade
I honestly would keep track of friends invites to camp but would often get to playa
Park close to center camp or A
Unload bike ride around meet people and sometimes accept an offer to camp if close to center and or Esplanade in my early years.

    Bike Fast. Hyperspace.
Biking from 10:00 esplanade to 2:00 or any esplanade is Fast and easy to avoid obstacles . Hydrate. Beware Noon Sun.

Biking from H I J K L to center can take much time and slow you down. And collision s cars.

If your goal is more oriented towards esplanade 2:00 and 10:00 then you want to camp closest to Esplanade so you can bike Hyperspace.
Re 1995-2014 when attractions were such.

Having a rear rack on bike allowed me to shlep gear when need be but stay
Light fast nimble when desired

BM for me more fun when I can bounce around like a pinball
As an ADHD AuDHD Dyslexic Autistic Asperger Syndrome
Distractable kid in a sandbox full of delights.

Burning man olive green army parachute shade

     PARACHUTE or SHADE
Green and dark colors block UV
If three people wear ripstop nylon shirts made of same parachute material then white shirt will burn
Green shirt no burn
orange shirt, Guess no burn as orange fiber may block UV light
Orange fiber block, visible blue light
Therefore, if I was hiding under a green white orange umbrella
I would choose green. Orange second

AlumiNet is toxic. I would never. How many years of camping with aluminum would it take before you get Alzheimer’s from breathing aluminum dust in your car truck camper closet storage aluminate is tens of thousands of contact points between strands of aluminum rubbing against each other with friction, aided by alkaline playa dust eroding disintegrating for all those little aluminum nano particles to drift softly invisibly quietly into your nostrils
One fine decade when you are demented, you will forget where you parked your car or your camp or why you are in the desert
And why you’re naked
How did I get here? When is dinner? Why is it dusty?

     SHAVE
Burning man Playa dust destroys razors, so I simply bring a dozen dull, spent razors to the burn and destroy one each morning
Thanks to alkali Playa dust I learned to
Hold onto my raz through the year, as I could use them one last final time in the desert

For the hearing impaired
Any razor you use on Playa will likely get destroyed in one use or at least dulled

These may be overstatements, but let’s say I can get several weeks worth of shaves up to even a month out of each disposable razor at home
Makes excellent economic sense, then to bring one dozen dull razors to the burn to get one more day out of each

Each morning I would pour water into a frisbee – add some drops of Dr. Bronner’s Castile soap, shave a few strokes, splash, the razor repeatedly in the dish of water, and continue until clean shaven

Then I would shampoo and shower

Be a hero by donating tons of good usable, bike parts, parts to bike repair camps at burning man by
Asking default world bike stores to save parts for you every day they fill their dumpsters with good used inner tubes and tires from wealthy customers who just want new tubes and tires all around
Same with wheels, seats, post bottle holders, cranks, chains, chain wheels, free wheels, gears to railers and shifters and brakes cables
and lions and tigers and bears oh my

Suffice it to say, this is more true in the wealthy neighborhoods of Silicon Valley, Palo Alto, Marin, Blackhawk Tahoe, Denver you know places with really wealthy people who take sports and Velo seriously

Also, you were telling the store this is to give give to burning man camps to reuse for bicycles, so the employees will understand only to collect good working usable parts for you
