BM staff do not direct you or slot you or corral you into lots.
Once you are through the gate, you are free to point your vehicle onto any road or street you want within camping zones as seen on map but you may not drive on Esplanade or in open Playa. And you should not drive on 2:00 or 10:00. After gate opens.
From 1995-2014 I really enjoyed being close to Esplanade so that I could hyper space across the plant on my bike and have fast access to 2 o’clock 10 o’clock open Playa man, temple, any and all the attractions
Hyper space on Playa
Please understand it is very easy and fast to hyper space across the Playa on your bike, whereas attempting to navigate inner city streets is very slow due to
radically, uneven surfaces and mounds of dirt
Frequent traffic of cars, trucks, buses, bicycles, pedestrians, and traffic on streets
If you want to bike around and do tons of stuff, then you may want to be closer to Esplanade 2 o’clock or 10 o’clock
Esplanade A B C D E F G H are theme camps. generally you would not join a theme camp unless you were invited to camp with them beforehand
most of the camping behind those first 8 blocks are open camping first come first serve you can choose whatever you want and coexist peacefully with your neighbors
Wish I could say see Burningman.org Map blue zones for theme camp lots that are not available for open campers. But they do not put a map out before event. Which brings up another point
Forfeit
some people speak to the concept that any theme camp that has not claimed its space by opening of gate have forfeited their space.
Redundancy
OK well this is just one more reason to go early drive around meet people chat people and people might invite you into their theme camp on ABC or DEFGH or you might find a space that was forfeited because that camp did not show up
now this is a gray area I do not know enough about the rule
But all of this just really points towards the better strategy of go early bike around meet people and get invited to into or next to a camp or theme camp
Sorry, this is getting complicated but upon realizing that theme camps take the first eight blocks nowadays
Provides more incentive to arrive early or prearrange with the camp
Redundancy
This, then, would be a good reason to arrive early preferably the day the gate opens Such that you can drive in pull up to where you think would be a nice place to camp and maybe even get your bike out bike around and meet people maybe meet some fun friends who invite you to camp with them
Please forgive the awkward or unusual arrangement of the writing above, but today is the second time I’ve heard somebody express concern that burning man staff would direct you to a particular parking spot and that is so frightful and contrary to the burning man experience, which is mostly happy, fun, free anarchy, where you can do what you want to go where you want in camp where you want and have a joyously good time
This year tickets are more available because 2022 was hot 2023 was wet. 2024 looks to be hot also but for those who miss some years coming to burning man in previously there are now tickets available through step program at burningman.org ? |
