Katrina/Rita Volunteers Needed
Animal Rescue and Recovery
Volunteers desperately needed at Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LA. You are needed to help save the pets of the Katrina survivers. Help them rebuild thier lives by saving their pets.
I just returned from 7 days on-site at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center in Gonzales, LA. Volunteers are desperately needed to clean shelter cages and walk dogs, to drop food and water to feed animals in the streets and stuck in houses, to do data entry of notes from the field, to clean crates, and do general site organization and clean-up. If you are interested please call me. I can brief you on my experience and give you directions on what to expect and how to get right to work when you arrive.
The do not need supplies. Need strong loving and patient people to work very very hard under very challenging circumstances.
You are NEEDED.

Organizational Meeting #3
A number of individuals in Marin County have created an exploratory group in anticipation of gearing up for a local campaign in support of Instant Runoff Voting (IRV) and/or choice voting.
We are inviting individuals or group representatives interested in election reform and in particular IRV ranked voting to get together for a brainstorming/planning/organizational meeting.
We will discuss and evaluate several proposals for action at the city and county level, including possible introduction of IRV at College of Marin and/or Dominican University, public forums, contact with elected officials, seeking endorsements of SB 596, etc.

ASSEMBLY CANDIDATES’ FORUM ON CHANNEL 26
Channel 26 will air a videotape of the candidates forum held on May 23rd at College of Marin in which six of the actual or potential Democratic candidates for the 6th Assembly District next year participated: John Alden, Greg Brockbank, Damon Connolly, Frank Egger, Jared Huffman, and Pamela Torliatt. The forum was moderated by Marty Krasny, the Chair of the 6th Assembly District Democratic Committee, and sponsored by Voters for Representative Government (VRG) and co-sponsored by numerous other progressive Marin groups.
The candidates also answered lengthy questionnaires for VRG, and those answers can be found on VRG’s web site at http://www.representativevoter.org. For more information, contact Greg Brockbank, the video’s producer, at 472-4400.

In an outstanding act of generosity, Brian Copeland, the stand-up comedian, writer, television and talk-show radio host, will give a benefit performance for Fair Housing of Marin.

to Speak in Marin
Howard Lyman, the fourth generation cattle rancher who won't eat meat, author of MAD COWBOY and the new book NO MORE BULL will be speaking at a free meeting of Marin Vegetarian Education Group at 6 PM at the Town Center Shopping Center's Community Room in Corte Madera.
This is a free event and a wonderful chance to invite your friends, co-workers, and neighbors to hear an entertaining speaker and watch a short, powerful film.
The Community Room is located on the south end of the property in the office building at 770 Tamalpais Drive, Suite 201. The door is next to the entrance to The Good Guys that faces the center, not the one that faces the parking lot. There is an elevator to the second floor. Come hear about Mad Cow Disease and what the government does not want you to know about common practices in the meat industry.
Howard Lyman's new book, No More Bull! includes more than 100 delicious vegan recipes from terrific home chefs and professional chefs. The subtitle of the book is The Mad Cowboy Targets America's Worst Enemy: Our Diet. The book is entertaining, informative, and full of great recipes, so look for a copy at bookstores this month.

Helping you make your life, school and community more sustainable!
Want to learn more about the environment, take action and find out how you create a more sustainable world? Join 100 young people from across Marin and around the Bay area – as well as environmental leaders, educators and organizations - at Next Generation’s second annual Green Your School conference, hosted by the San Domenico School.
When: Sat. October 1, 2005, 10:30 am to 5:30pm (Youth Party 7 - 8:30) with lunch, a BBQ dinner and an after party for youth from 7 to 8:30pm.
Where: At the San Domenico School, 1500 Butterfield Rd. in San Anselmo.

Van Jones will be giving a keynote talk about over-incarceration in California’s billion dollar prison industry, and the over-incarceration of marginalized peoples. The evening will have Suzi Jestadt and Liza Klein highlighting the project and others directly or indirectly tied to San Quentin speaking on their experiences. We invite you to come join us for a heartfelt and worthwhile evening to benefit the San Quentin Families Project.
The San Quentin Families Project was started by Suzi Jestadt after her transformative experience helping to facilitate a “positive attitude” support group with life inmates at San Quentin Prison. The desire exhibited by the men in this group to be positive and constructive in their prison lives, is enveloped by enough grace and beauty to be shared with each living person outside prison walls. Suzi went to Liza Klein, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, for support and input on a project to somehow help prisoners, and together they created the San Quentin Families Project.
The project is working to start relationships with these and other men of the prison community, in assisting them to be connected with their children while incarcerated. It hopes to develop, cultivate, and sustain relationships by helping to coordinate physical visits, funding materials for contact, and encouraging the men to be active parents in their children lives.
Food, Drink, Organic ice cream and Live music from Baslao, Shree Dove, and Joanne Lawson will be served.

PeaceNovato Summer Vigils

Remembrance Project: We are folding a paper crane for every American soldier who has died in the Iraq war. We will carry the cranes, each with a soldier's name, in the Novato Fourth of July parade. The Project will continue until the war has ended.
