Nine city blocks filled with art and performances, vendors from around the world, tasty food and drinks, and all the colorful weirdness that San Francisco is famous for. All ages are welcome and costumes are highly encouraged.
Journey to the "Mythical Realms" of Howard Street and celebrate peace, creativity, and the start of the summer season!
The music stages are produced by local collectives and music organizations, including Symbiosis, Muti Music, Rebel Bass Collective, Groove Garden, Hookahdome, Afrolicious, Non Stop Bhangra, Tantra, Temple Nightclub, Opel, Opulent Temple, Ultraviolet Carnival, Aum Festival, Red Marines, SF House, Pink Mammoth, SWAG, and more.
Dancing knows no boundaries or political affiliation. Music, more than any other form of communication, is able to transcend differences between people. It is through music and art that peace is always possible.
The main entrance, at Howard and New Montgomery Streets, is where you’ll find complimentary bike parking. It is only two blocks from the Montgomery BART station on Market Street, and near many MUNI lines, the Transbay Terminal, and Caltrain Station.
There is a requested donation of $10 for the How Weird Street Faire. The full donation buys a Magic Sticker that is potentially worth many times that amount, with discounts at the faire bars and after parties, as well as specials at many of the vendors.
The fun doesn’t stop when the faire ends, it just moves indoors to three very nice locations right at the faire site: Temple Nightclub, 111 Minna Gallery, and Harlot. Get a ticket at any location for only $10 (or $2 off with the Magic Sticker) good for all three venues. There will be ins and outs at all three clubs throughout the evening. The after-parties are 21 and over with ID. Magic Stickers are only available at the gates during the faire.

Since 1996 "The Best Multiuse Facility" (SF Guardian) in San Francisco has played host to every type of artistic, creative project imaginable. CELLspace has enabled tens of thousands of artists and spectators to experience the rich creative culture of the Bay Area. If you are planning a large-scale technological project, have an art
project that absolutely requires Internet connectivity, or will be beaming
any sort of frequencies from 900MHz to 5.8GHz into the airwaves above the
playa, you are cordially invited and strongly requested to participate in
the fifth Playa Wireless Summit hosted by the Burning Man Technology
Department.
This year's summit will be held in San Francisco at the Internet Archive
(but of course you can participate remotely -- we're geeks) at 7pm to 9pm
on May 12, 2011.

About the project:
Previously exhibited at the Burning Man event in 2010, Cusolito's
'Blooms' (20 foot high metal flower sculptures) create a
'scale-reversal' environment, in which visitors are obliged to take
notice of the detail and beauty of a usually small wonder of nature.
The Blooms sprout up triumphantly amidst the bustle of this urban
landscape, making a stand for public art that belongs to all.
“The Black Rock Arts Foundation has flourished amidst the Bay Area’s
highly concentrated population of artists, activists, volunteers and
other doers and has the aspiration of contributing a lasting, positive
impact on the Bay Area’s cultural history,” said Executive Director
Tomas McCabe. “As part of this longer-term vision, we see the
Mid-Market area as an ideal location for public art."
In addition to debuting Cusolito's installations, Art in Storefronts,
now in its second year, returns to Central Market with six storefront
installations and five murals. The latest in The ARTery Project’s
efforts to revitalize a once-vibrant commercial corridor, the project
temporarily places original art installations by San Francisco artists
in vacant and under-used storefront windows and exterior walls.

FRONT-END/LAMP DEVELOPER PROJECT AVAILABLE AT BMHQ
Burning Man is seeking an individual to provide front-end development and LAMP stack development support for a variety of software projects. We have new development, ongoing maintenance, and software elvaluation projects for numerous systems using several LAMP stack, open source and proprietary platforms. For these projects, you will perform system and software changes to support annually recurring and one-time updates to user facing components, perform new installs as part of software evaluation projects, and assist with the integration of software solutions into event production processes. In addition, you will perform supporting tasks such as participation in end-user testing, creation of developer and end-user documentation, training, and other tasks as necessary. This position requires some on playa support.

* A Bachelor's Degree or equivalent; Minimum of two years experience performing front-end development and/or LAMP stack development;
* Experience using form building and report generation technologies;
* A technical multi-tool, eager to explore new technologies while retaining best practices to ensure longevitiy and easy maintenance of projects;
* Well-versed in CSS3 and HTML for implementing clean, valid markup of user interfaces;
* Detail-oriented with strong oral and written communication skills;
* Dedicated to providing quality service;
* Comfortable juggling tasks, priorities, and projects;
* Meet deadlines and honor commitments;
* Experienced working in iterative software development processes;
* Love working with creative people;

CAN YOU DO THIS??
Manage new development and maintenance projects:
· Track and implement detailed interface and content changes to support a myriad of public and staff-facing forms and web interface technologies.
· Work with report generation tools to ensure accurate creation of system reports.
· Install and evaluate numerous comparable software packages for their usability and maintainability.
· Step in and do whatever it takes to help a project be successful.
· Maintain productive relationships with vendors.
· Offer suggestions to improve user experience, engineering processes and maintenance costs.
· Work with project management to create realistic project plans and timelines.
· Willing to keep status up to date in real-time via ticketing system or other agreed upon communication channels.
· Deliver work projects according to agreed upon milestone dates, and/or alert and negotiate changes well in advance.
· Ensure best practices are being used for development and testing efforts.
· Perform QA on everything you touch before you hand it over.
· Help create system, user, and training documentation as necessary.
· Follow up and manage post implementation fixes.
· See a project through to the very end.
· Willing and able to learn, maintain and improve upon legacy systems/processes, even if not very sexy or challenging.
· Be patient, supportive and communicate clearly with busy internal customers who have a wide range of technical knowledge and abilities.
· Write status reports and annual internal and external reports.
· Work closely and collaboratively within a team environment.

CALL FOR ARTISTS
2012 Art on Market Street Kiosk Poster Series
The Art on Market Street Program, which has commissioned new artwork by Bay Area artists on an annual basis since 1992, includes a bus kiosk poster series and other temporary projects that take place on San Francisco's main thoroughfare. For the kiosk poster series, the Art on Market Street Program commissions three consecutive three-month poster exhibitions annually. Each poster series consists of a set of six original and related designs that are professionally reproduced and printed as six sets of posters, 68 inches high by 47 ¼ inches wide (trim size), for installation in 36 bus kiosks on Market Street between 8th Street and the Embarcadero. All artists' designs must be approved by the Arts Commission and are expected to be appropriate for a broad public audience.
DEADLINE: Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 12:00 AM (PST)
ELIGIBILITY: Eligibility is open to professional, practicing artists working primarily in any two-dimensional media and residing in the nine San Francisco Bay Area counties: Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma.
