SPRAYED ON MT TAM?
Permanently End Pesticide Spraying in Our Watershed
We are encouraging members of the community to attend the January 18, MMWD Board meeting, when the Board will consider vegetation management regarding the use of Round Up on MMWD lands. at the Water District headquarters. 220 Nellen Ave. Corte Madera.
Jared Huffman, MMWD Board Chair, has asked the public to attend the meeting, to express their feelings about whether the current pesticide moratorium should be continued.
While the board took commendable action by putting a temporary moratorium on spraying toxic herbicides in the MMWD watershed at their August 10, 2005 meeting, we believe that the moratorium should become a permanent ban on the use of Roundup and any other toxic herbicide in our watershed.
Please make your voice is heard by MMWD board members; let them know that you are opposed to the use of herbicides and that you support a permanent ban on herbicides on MMWD land .

Solidarity with the People of Venezuela
Three recently produced documentaries will acquaint viewers with Venezuela's remarkable developments in literacy, health care, food and nutrition programs, and land reform.
Showing at 6:45 PM will be "Chavez, Venezuela and the New Latin America." This is the exclusive February 2004 interview with Hugo Chavez conducted by Aleida Guevara, daughter of Che Guevara, and includes information about the blockade of information imposed by the US.
At 8:00 PM will be "With the Poor of the Earth." The profound social and economic changes taking place in Venezuela come to life, with emphasis on the participation of Venezuela's millions of poor in the revolutionary process.
The 9:00 PM finale will be "Venezuela Bolivariana: People & Struggle of the Fourth World War." This film covers the period from the 1989 "Caracazo" to the present and credits grassroots and networking power with contributing to concrete alternatives in the fight against neoliberal capitalism.
Eva Golinger's April 2005 book "The Chavez Code: Cracking US Intervention in Venezuela" will be available for sale, as well as DVDs of her September 5, 2005, presentation at the Berkeley Fellowship of Unitarian Universalists.

COMCAST - MARIN Cable Franchise
CONTRACT HEARING

NEXT MTA MEETING: After six years of negotiations, the MTA will discuss the proposed ten-year cable franchise agreement with Comcast at their next meeting. The MTA must insist on some key provisions in this agreement, before allowing Comcast to continue using our streets for its cables.
Please Come and Support Community Media Tell the MTA that you support the creation of a non-profit, independent community media center, and that any new franchise agreement must include the following:
• Designated Access Provider (DAP): This lets the people of Marin run their own Community Media Center and their Public, Education And Government (PEG) channels.
• Capital Expense: The new community media center must be adequately funded for new and upgraded equipment and facilities over the life of the agreement.
• Operational Expense: A media center must have enough income to keep running. This can be provided by a viewer choice fee (less than $1 a month) on cable bills.
• FM Service on the cable must be guaranteed. In many parts of Marin cable is the only way people can hear FM.

Course Description:
Sustainability: From Policies to Practice
What is sustainability? How did this term evolve? And what are some examples of sustainability projects taking place locally and around the world? We will examine the concept, evolution and implementation of sustainability strategies and programs developed by individuals and organizations including government, business, ecological design, natural resources and environmental conservation groups. We will then discuss ways in which we can personally take action and make decisions that will affect our own and the earth's health and well-being. The text, The Sustainability Revolution: Portrait of a Paradigm Shift (New Society Publishers, 2005) is available in the Kentfield Campus Bookstore and retails for $16.95

"Citizen" congressional hearing
Board of Supervisors' Chambers at Marin Civic Center. Lynn Woolsey will preside, Sen. Sheila Kuehl has been invited, and we hope to have numerous other legislators present. The object is to tell them what's wrong with our health-care system and to demand a system that works. There will be many people testifying. These hearings are being held around the country with the support of Rep. John Conyers; it's all part of building an irresistible groundswell for a single-payer system.
This is all part of building the mass movement that we will require before we can hope that a single-payer system will pass. There are too many monied interests opposed to expect that mere good will and good sense could overthrow the disastrous system we have today. Like civil rights, like the anti-tobacco movement, we must first have a sea change in public thinking.

On November 23, 2005, ISF (Idriss Stelley Foundation), sponsored by Bayview Campaign to End the Death Penalty and October 22 Against Police Brutality Coalition, hosted a Civil Rights Cookout at its location in the heart of the Bayview District on 3rd & Palou. After hardly a week of minimal outreach, more than 300 folks, progressive city officials, community activists and most importantly many families of Victims of law enforcement came to share their stories, proudly celebrate their heritage and shout out their demands for change ! February 2006 event will unite thousands of People demanding Justice and Peace!
SF ANSWER, SF Peacemakers, National Radical Women, SF Black National Newspaper and Community First Coalition have joined our Team !
Idriss Stelley Foundation is allocating $5000 to the event. We need volunteers to apply for city permit, sound permit, and we are recruiting artists and musicians willing to donate their performance to the cause. Please send us your speakers and vendors requests ! Tabling will be free, provided that you bring your own table (or ironing board LOL)
