DIVE! Living off America's Waste - Film and Discussion
Every year in America we throw away 96 billion pounds of food. That's 263 million pounds a day. 11 million pounds an hour. 3,000 pounds a second.
Inspired by a curiosity about society’s careless habit of sending food straight to landfills, the multi award-winning documentary DIVE! follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and friends as they dumpster dive in the back alleys and gated garbage supermarket receptacles. In the process, they salvage thousands of dollars worth of good, edible food – resulting in an eye-opening documentary that is equal parts entertainment, guerilla journalism and call to action.
DIVE! has garnered critical praise while raising important questions about hunger and waste in society. This is Seifert's first film and has been warmly received by audiences across the country, winning nineteen festivals thus far, including the Boulder International, Sedona International, DC Independent, and the Green Film Festival in Seoul.
Discussion following the film.
December 2011
Thu Dec 1
Commissioner Peevey has stated that if enough people come to tomorrow morning's meeting, then the Cpuc will allow for analog meters to go back on. Turnout is crucial though. And we must demand that entire communities be smeter free at no additional cost.
**ACTION ALERT** OCCUPY CA PUBLIC UTILITIES COMMISSION (CPUC) THIS THURSDAY DEC. 1ST 9AM 505 Van Ness Ave SF (at McAllister)
Dear Stop Smart Meters! Supporter:
Californians- who have been under attack from utility smart grid radiation- are now facing the prospect of being forced to pay $90 up front and $15/ month simply to receive a "transmitter off" electric meter. Not only have these 'opt out' meters been implicated in health damage, there is NO PLAN to offer opt outs for gas or water meters.
This is extortion. Plain and simple.
An individual opt out plan- even a free one- will not address the insanity of the growing cloud of "electrosmog" caused by cell towers, 'smart' meters and other wireless devices. There is now solid documentation of the serious and pervasive harm this is causing to people, animals, and plants.
WE MUST PULL THE PLUG ON THIS WHOLE DEBACLE *NOW*
Unfortunately, the CPUC and state government don't seem to be getting the message. Maybe they're not hearing us. Maybe we need to TAKE IT UP A NOTCH.
TAKE ACTION
1) ATTEND AND SPEAK OUT at this Thursday's CPUC meeting in San Francisco-
Thursday December 1st 9am 505 Van Ness Avenue (at McAllister) in SF.
The CPUC typically allows public comment of 1-2 minutes, but you must arrive by 8:45am to sign up. If you arrive before the end of public comment (possibly 9:15- 9:30am) you can raise your hand to speak and they must give you 1 min. Take a minute and spread the word to friends and family- let's pack the chambers and remind this commission (and the utilities) who they're working for and who pays their salaries- the 99%!!!
2) CALL AND E-MAIL CPUC COMMISSIONERS, STATE LEGISLATORS AND THE GOVERNOR
The commission as a whole has the power to vote down this extortionate opt out proposal, and they need to know how much we object to it. Comments should be submitted asap, but latest by December 12th. You should also contact your legislators and Gov. Brown at (916) 445-2841.

Tell them to reject the extortionate 'opt out' plan, open a full and independent investigation into 'smart' meter health damage being linked to wireless radiation, and to pull the plug on the 'smart' meter mesh network NOW.
Thank you for taking action to protect our unalienable rights to health, safety, and privacy.
