The Dollar
http://www.breitbart.com/news/2006/12/18/061218095123.sn4s0vlu.html
The Iranian government said it has ordered the central bank to transform the state's dollar-denominated assets held abroad into euros and use the European currency for foreign transactions.
"The government has ordered the central bank to replace the dollar with the euro to limit the problems of the executive organs in commercial transactions," government spokesman Gholam Hossein Elham told reporters Monday.
"We will also employ this change for Iranian assets (in dollars) held abroad."
The move comes amid mounting pressure from the United States for the UN Security Council to agree sanctions against Iran over its controversial nuclear programme.
Elham added that Iran's budget would in future be calculated according to euros.
"Until now the budget has been calculated according to revenues in dollars but this calculation will now change."

Pelosi Targets Grassroots Freedom of Speech
“This bill would apply to those who have no Washington-based
lobbyists, who provide no money or gifts to members of Congress, and
who merely seek to speak, associate and petition the government,” it
said. “Regulating the speech, publishing, association and petitioning
rights of citizens is not targeted at corruption in Washington, as
Public Citizen and its supporters would believe. Instead, it is
targeted directly at the 1st-Amendment rights of citizens and their
voluntary associations.”

Thu Dec 21 Winter Solstice
Last Vigil of the Year at UCSF - December 21, 4:30 PM Dear Advocates for Animals:
The year's last Vigil for animals incarcerated and exploited in laboratory experiments at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) will be held on the 3rd Thursday of the month (as usual) - December 21, 4:30 PM till about 6 PM. This will be a candlelight vigil (we have candles, so nobody needs to bring any unless they feel like it). However, participants can feel free to bring their own signs, as well a short poem or prose to recite, as we will close the Vigil with a reading of prose/poetry regarding individuals of other species and/or our relationships with them.
The Vigil will be held at UCSF's Parnassus Campus at 513 Parnassus Avenue in San Francisco. If anyone needs directions on how to get there or has any questions, they can e-mail vigilforanimals @ yahoo.com or call 415-751-3756.
Note Regarding Public Transportation: If you would like to take public transportation to UCSF, the San Francisco Muni buses #6 and #43 both go right by the Vigil's venue on Parnassus Avenue; also you can take the N-Judah streetcar, get off at Carl & Arguello streets, and take the elevator (going up) within the UCSF facility to get to Parnassus Avenue. If you are coming from the East Bay, you can take BART, get off at any stop between Embarcadero and Civic Center in San Francisco, and then take an N-Judah streetcar going outbound (and follow directions above regarding N-Judah streetcar). WINTER SOLSTICE BONFIRE AT OCEAN BEACH
http://sanfrancisco.tribe.net/event/b17d01d5-6683-4e2a-be61-98e72794269d
Date & Time: 2006-12-21 6:00 PM
Greetings Divine Beings!
As you may know, our beloved friends at Solstice Grove will not be hosting their annual party this year. ;(
So...we've decided to keep the spark alive by having our own gathering for the tribe at Ocean Beach.
Here's what we have in mind:
Winter Solstice is upon us yet again. Since days of old, the longest night of the year has allowed us to honor the sacred darkness within
by returning to the womb of the Goddess and remembering our dreams and infinite possibilities. As we return home, to our deepest core,
and merge with our dream self, we have the opportunity to retrieve the wisdom of our spirit song and seed our imagination with this sacred
intention. Once the seed of our future has been crystalized and our cosmic memory has been rekindled, we can prepare for another cycle
of our immortal journey back into the light. From this night on, the light will grow brighter, and the rays of the sun will nurture the child of spring.
Across the world, we will light a sacred fire to celebrate the waxing of the light as the divine spark within begins to awaken...
YOU ARE INVITED TO A WINTER SOLSTICE GATHERING AT OCEAN BEACH!
"Singing our divine song"
Come adorned as your most beautiful incarnation and radiate your divine self.
FESTIVITIES INCLUDE:
Blazing a bonfire (bring some wood!)
Dancing and drumming (bring some drums!)
Ancient mystic wisdom spoken word (bring your poetry!)
Fire dancing (bring your poi!)
Singing and ringing the Solstice Bells (bring some bells or singing bowls)
Passing the sacred chalices of pomegranite, cranberry, and winter nog (bring some hot drinks and cups to share)
Winter Solstice Altar created by Mira (bring a sacred object to put on the altar)
Afterwards, we'll migrate across the street and watch our friend's new movie:
"CARAVAN OF LIGHT: a project honoring the sacred element of fire", by Sahar and Joshua Jacobs.
Bring a towel, just in case we jump in the hot tub. ;)
WHEN: Thursday, December 21st
WHERE: Ocean Beach (Lincoln at the Great Highway - just to the right of the cement pier)
WHEN: 6:00pm - Around 9pm (or till we freeze our booties off!)
COST: Zero
*****Bring warm jackets and blankets. Also, be prepared for rain?
*****Don't bring glass bottles of any sort.
*****Please DO NOT bring pallets with nails in them. We like yummy wood. ;)
*****Bring yo' beautiful self and leave no trace.
*****Carpool if you can.
Love and blessings! The Winter Solstice Crew Posted by: Alex

Launch party for the up and coming lead designer of Eco Couture,
Kashi Stone
this Thursday, December 21st.
On Thursday, December 21st, in Mill Valley at....
Famous For Our Look
96 Throckmorton, Mill Valley 388.2550
All day into the evening
Located in the heart of Mill Valley, across from the Depot,
Famous For Our Look hosts the launch of
Kashi Stone Eco Couture.
Serving champagne and a great selection of fashion for last minute gift shopping.
What makes Kashi Stone Fashion stand out from the rest of the fashion designers
is that it is fashion with a cause.
It is "beauty giving back to the planet".
There is an educational theme that informs the consumer about select
environmental causes linked with the fashion. For instance, the couture
clothing line, which is inspired by the beauty and grace of mermaids, gives proceeds
to a few select ocean preserves.
see: http:/www.kashistone.com/pages/elegantecofashion.html
The faux fur couture focuses on five endangered jungle cats. The coats are designed to compliment the animals but are not intended to duplicate the actual pelts of real fur.
The idea is to conjure the playful spirit of the feline and to celebrate its nature. Jungle preserves that focus on maintaining and preserving habitats for these species are discussed on the website.
See: http://www.kashistone.com/pages/furcoats.html
In addition, most of the fabric used in the couture line is made of hemp. Hemp is becoming, more and more, a mainstream textile as agricultural considerations are taking precedence in environmental issues, especially related to conventional cotton farming. Conventional cotton farming requires almost half of the pesticides and herbicides used in the US.
As a textile, hemp is a long lasting fabric that stands up to repeated washing, maintaining its quality and longevity. Hemp also requires no ironing -making it the ideal travel garment.
More information regarding the uses of hemp and its ability to assist in environmental causes as a beneficial agricultural plant can be found here:
http://www.kashistone.com/pages/naturalfabric.html
I encourage you to join the revolution in fashion consumer awareness and research how the fashion industry is affecting our planet. It is astounding how much of a difference it would make on our planet if we began farming hemp instead of deforestation. Conventional cotton farming and plastic manufacturing – yes – hemp can replace all of that abundantly, generously and with love.
In these very important times with serious environmental afflictions, we cannot continue to partake in blind, brainwashed consumerism. It is imperative that we continue to support and encourage those who have taken the lead in planetary transformation and healing, find alternative resources and continue to educate ourselves on how to become better planetary stewards.
When the newspapers are filled with fear, devastation, greed and demise, it is refreshing to read and learn about individuals or groups who are making a positive difference on our planet. I would like to share with you a wonderful organization that is providing information and support to those groups who are making a difference globally – Earth Island Institute. I encourage you to support them and check out their links. http://www.earthisland.org
Join us on Thursday, as we launch a new fashion statement, support a great cause and grab the last minute gift at

LIFE OF MAMMALS
by David Attenborough
This documentary is pure magic. A lot of thought went into its content -- from spectacular visuals to awesome sound and content structure. It reveals how intricate the web of life on this planet is and how threatened it is. From deer-like rodents in Patagonia whose activities seem to confuse a nearby burrowing owl (whose burrow the Maras had snatched) to a female Leopard sneaking into a rural village in India to steal domestic goats because its natural prey base was scarce. From bizarre (platypus), to large (whales), tiny (harvest mice), blind (golden mole), fast (cheetah), slow (sloth), to the ones that fly (bats) -- this documentary covers the entire spectrum of mammals in stunning visuals and captivating narration. The filmmaker, David Attenborough, is thorough and scientifically accurate. His screen presence is comforting and his lifetime of experience ensures that the content is seamless and exciting. He is able to show us firsts: new behavior and discoveries, sometimes even new animals. What distinguishes mammals from other animals is their ability to adapt. The documentary goes into incredible depth about all the different intricacies of the mammals’ lives and how they coexist with each other and humans. It is perhaps the best wildlife documentary ever made. And it stands as a great proof of evolution. Although the film never comes right out and specifically talks about evolution, it is a subtext throughout the film. The mechanics of evolution are so clear that it would be hard to question evolution after watching this film.

Musical acts performing on the three stages include the The String Cheese Incident (playing two full sets each night), British nu-school breaks producer Tipper, revolutionary underground artist Bassnectar, modern day traveling minstrel DJ Mark Farina, the down-tempo trip-hop dance music of Lotus, live electronic hipsters Pnuma Trio and plenty of others still to be announced.
