Not Your Parent's Drug Test
A surge in the number of Americans peeing on demand has coincided with an explosion of alternative drug testing technology.
One look at the Cozart RapiScan, a self-proclaimed complete "on-site oral fluid drugs of abuse diagnostic system," and it's obvious: This isn't your parents' drug test. Gone are the golden days of the plastic collection cup. The Cozart saliva testing system comes in a spiffy silver suitcase and consists of an oral fluid collection swab, a disposable test cartridge, its own handheld digital computer, and a portable printer "for a permanent record of test results."
The official U.S. distributor of the RapiScan, The Dominion Diagnostics Corporation, was one of many hi-tech exhibitors hawking their wares in Tampa last spring at a meeting of corporate drug testers, toxicologists and law enforcement officers, sponsored, in part, by the Office of National Drug Control Policy (a.k.a. the drug czar's office). But this White House-backed gathering was no trade show. The purpose of this symposium � and the intent of the bodily fluid snoopers in attendance � was to call for an unprecedented, government-mandated expansion of both drug testing and the application of new drug-screening technology � and not just for those within the workplace. And the pee police may be close to getting their wish.

Notice to students, teachers, parents who oppose military recruitment in the
schools:
Please join with peace activists to speak out at the S.F. Board of Education
meeting on Feb. 22nd, 7 p.m, at 555 Franklin St., 2nd floor (near Golden
Gate).
We passed Proposition N in S.F. by 63%. It called for the immediate
withdrawal of all U.S. troops from Iraq. But S.F. high school students are
being actively recruited by the U.S. military on campus through direct
recruitment and through the Jr.ROTC program. Many recent City graduates are
currently serving in Iraq. This must end. Schools must not be used to
recruit youngsters to kill or be killed in this illegal, immoral war!
Please help spread the word. Let us know if you will speak at the Board
meeting.

Draft Resolution for San Francisco Board of Education

Cut Ties with the Military

WHEREAS, the United States military is actively recruiting high school
students into the military to fight in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, many young San Francisco high school alumni are presently serving
in
military units fighting in Iraq; and

WHEREAS, it is San Francisco City policy by virtue of Proposition N, to
bring
all U.S. troops home from Iraq now; and

WHEREAS, over 1,500 U.S. soldiers and at least 100,000 Iraqis have been
killed in this war and over 10,000 U.S. soldiers and unknown thousands of
Iraqis
have been wounded; and

WHEREAS, the hundreds of billions of dollars spent on the war have robbed
our
children of resources that should be spent on education and other human
needs; and

WHEREAS, military presence in our schools legitimizes the message that
violence is acceptable; THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:

It shall be the policy of the San Francisco Board of Education to support
cutting all ties with the United States military, including, but not
limited to:
Ending military recruitment on campuses; ending the Junior Reserved Officer
Training Corps (JROTC); and ensuring that all students and parents are
informed
of their right to deny military recruiters access to their names, addresses
and telephone numbers.

1. Mark Pauline. Founder and Director of Survival Research
Laboratories (SRL), a San Francisco art institution since 1978. SRL pioneered the genre of violent machine art performance on large locations, incorporating and innovating cutting-edge computer technology and remote-controlled robotics. Mr. Pauline is also a graphic artist, engineer, inventor, writer, and has lectured at numerous universities and museums in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. He has been featured in V. Our 9-11 premiere events continue to evolve. I just send this out to
friends-

For years, we have been trying to break the basic facts about 9-11 into
the mainstream news. Marches, rallies, film screenings, educational
events, the International inquiries into 9-11, radio programs, television
programs, books, magazines, art, Deception Dollars, street theatre have
all contributed to a raising of consciousness. Even the New York Times,
the L.A. Times, and Congress are now forced to acknowledge that the
Administration lied about what it knew, when. The White House is in panic
mode, issuing new terrorist warnings, and hiring experts in terrorism,
death squads, and repression to head up our Intelligence Agencies and
Homeland Insecurity.
March 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th, in and around San Francisco, we will be
premiering "The 9-11 News Special You Never Saw- The Great Conspiracy"
produced by Barrie Zwicker, the first mainstream journalist to deeply
question the official story, and director of the Toronto International
Inquiry into 9-11. The screenings will be followed by dialogues with
Barrie Zwicker; author of 9-11 Synthetic Terror: Made in the USA, Webster
G. Tarpley; Director of Project Censored, Peter Phillips; Investigative
Reporter, musician, Michael Kane, the press and the public. I'm working
hard to encourage the few "independent press outlets" to break the story
and be applauded for championing truth and justice. Who in the press will
come to which event remains to be seen.
Simply the process of organizing has helped me to see how much our
movement has progressed. The book stores have asked us which 9-11 books
they ought to carry. The Pacifica website has a special category for 9-11
truth events on its calendar.
The Northern California 9-11 Truth Alliance is now a project of Agape
Foundation; we have sent two delegates to represent us this weekend in St.
Louis at the United for Peace and Justice national conference to support
proposals which merge the 9-11 Truth Movement with the Peace and Justice
Movement...

Last year our "Behind Every Terrorist- There is a Bush" comedy event
was tremendously enjoyed and appreciated. A great comedian, Swami
Beyondananda, has volunteered to offer a bit of comic relief, during the
film breaks, to help people grasp the heavy message we are carrying.
There is nothing quite so empowering, as humor, to help large numbers of
people to overcome their fears and take action.
These should be fun, historic events. We realize that even if we make
headlines on the local papers; we still will have a journey ahead to hold
those responsible for 9-11 accountable. Please come if you can!!!!

Community College on Jan. 20, 2005*. Recently military recruiters caused
outrage at College Park High in Pleasant Hill when they set up a
shooting range on the school grounds with many students protesting their
presence. Prop N showed that Francisco is against the occupation of
Iraq. So far the Bush Administration has been too afraid of the anger
they might provoke by re-instituting a draft. Instead they are offering
huge incentives, including scholarships and cash pay outs to get young
people to sign up. With parents angry about education cuts, families
outraged at the senseless death of their loved ones, and students
already having some success in confronting recruiters now is the time
build a movement that keeps our kids from supporting and dying in an
occupation that the city is against. Money for colleges not for recruitment!

02/01/2005 ACADEMIC FREEDOM QUESTIONED WHEN CRITIC OF US GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION CAN'T SPEAK AT SMALL COLLEGE
February 1, 2005: University of Colorado Boulder Professor and longtime American Indian activist Ward Churchill has come under increasing criticism recently because of his view of why the September 11th events happened and could occur again. Prof. Churchill was scheduled to speak at Hamilton College in New York state this Thursday, and family members of people who died in the 9/11 incidents have been protesting his right to speak. Hamilton's website this afternoon indicated that the panel, "Limits on Dissent", has been cancelled due to "safety concerns," even after the event had been moved to a larger building. Churchill's speeches, essay, and book entitled "On the Justice of Roosting Chickens" earned national media attention in the leadup to the cancellation of the event. On January 31st he resigned his post as Chair of the Department of Ethnic Studies at the University of Colorado, but not his teaching position. Churchill is scheduled to speak at the San Francisco Anarchist Bookfair on March 26th
