This Saturday (Feb. 22) at 4pm will be the community forum focusing on the massive development project proposed for the former Sunset Magazine site. It will be at the Palo Alto Arts Center, 1313 Newell Road in Palo Alto. I encourage you to arrive a little early to ensure you get a good seat.
I’m attaching a letter I had in the Daily Post yesterday, and the event announcement, in case you’d like to share it with others.
I hope to see you on Saturday!
In Palo Alto and the Mid-Peninsula.

Sunset development 1
Dear Editor: Whether you're pro-housing, slow-growth or somewhere in between, the proposed development project for the former Sunset Magazine site in Menlo Park should be of great concern. If ever there was a proposal that should unite YIMBYs and NIMBYs, this is it.
Under the guise of "Builder's Remedy" - a State provision aimed at encouraging more housing -
"Willow Park" (don't let the friendly name fool you) would actually worsen our housing crisis. It would add 655 housing units while creating 3,000 new jobs. Where will all those new employees live, and who will they price out of the area?
Our housing crisis is the result of a jobs-housing imbalance. It's a problem of both supply (not enough housing) and demand (too many jobs for the housing stock). By adding four times as many jobs as housing units, Willow Park would only make our housing deficit worse.
The proposal includes three massive towers, the tallest being 39 stories and standing 460 feet high, making it the tallest building between San Francisco and Los Angeles.
Willow Park would add an estimated 7,000 cars trip per day to the Middlefield-Willow Road corridor. Seeking traffic relief, many commuters would cut through Palo Alto and Menlo Park neighborhoods. Potential impacts on San Francisquito Creek bordering the site have yet to be studied.
A community forum focusing on the proposed project will be held on
Saturday, February 22 at 4pm at the Palo Alto Arts Center,
1313 Newell Road Palo Alto
At Cross Street and Mark Adero adjacent to arts center next-door to Rinconada library
All are invited.
