Quickie Ice-Age 'Meltdown'...
Coral Reef Clue To Fast Sea Rise
Bernard O'Riordan in Sydney
Thursday February 24, 2005
The Guardian
The discovery of ancient mangrove forest remains under the Great Barrier Reef
has cast doubt on some theories about how quickly the sea level rose after the
last ice age.
Most scientists believe it was a gradual rise over the past 9,000 years. But
the existence of relic mangroves 70cm (27in) below the floor of the Barrier
Reef, some with leaves and branches still intact, suggests an abrupt rise.
Dan Alongi, a biologist at the Australian Institute of Marine Science, said it
appeared that sea levels rose about 3 metres in less than 30 years, drowning
forests and flooding estuaries, 20 times faster than previously thought.
"Material was very much intact, it didn't even have time to fully decompose
when it was buried," he said. "So it does tell us that when climate change last
happened it was comparatively quick."
It could indicate how quickly the climate might change today, he said, adding
that a sudden rise in sea level of the same magnitude will cause widespread
damage to coastal areas.
Ocean current modelling suggests that sea levels could rise anywhere from 1cm
to 10cm [1 to 4 inches] per year. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change
says that the total escalation could be 50-88cm. [20 to 30 inches]

RNC Update - The Video the NYPD Doesn't Want You to See
A state-of-the-art NYPD helicopter with infrared camera over the August 27
critical mass ride films a couple making out on a penthouse roof instead of
the violent mass arrest of hundreds of bicyclists on the street below. This
tape was turned over as part of discovery material in the upcoming
criminal trial of a legal observer. CBS2 has the story on video with this

UN Predicts 9.1 Billion People on Earth by 2050
http://www.truthout.org/docs_2005/E022505Y.shtml
Pius XII couldn't think of anything
nice to say about the extermination
of 6 million Jews, so he didn't say
anything at all. And guess who
made that very poison gas -
today's Pope, John Paul II!
Our valued correspondent Harry Mobley reports that in the early '40's, the now dying Pope John Paul II sold cyanide to the Nazis for use in Aushwitz. Yet we're supposed to be feeling sorry for Karol Wojtylafor (the Pope's real name), who was also a chemist for the Nazi's I.G. Farben Chemical Company, manufacturer of the poison gas for Auschwitz? This same cyanide gas along with Zyklon B and malathion was used to exterminate millions of Jews and other groups.
After the war salesman Karol, fearing for his life, joined the Catholic Church and was ordained a priest in 1946. Very shortly Karol Wottylafor, unindicted war criminal, became Poland's youngest bishop in 1958. Cut to present, the Pope's deathbed. Are your tears beginning to dry quickly?
**DID YOU KNOW THE POPE WAS A WAR CHEMIST FOR THE NAZIS?**
Now that you know this, do you feel any differently about Pope John Paul II, unindicted Nazi war criminal? - Greg

STOP MILITARY RECRUITING IN OUR SCHOOLS!
*COME TO THIS COMMUNITY MEETING WITH TEACHERS,*
* STUDENTS, ANTI-WAR ACTIVISTS, AND VETERANS*
2PM SATURDAY FEB 26 // WOMEN'S BUILDING, SF (see below)
***U.S. Army recruiters were kicked off campus at Seattle Central
Community College on Jan. 20, 2005*. Recently military recruiters caused
outrage at College Park High in Pleasant Hill when they set up a
shooting range on the school grounds with many students protesting their
presence. Prop N showed that Francisco is against the occupation of
Iraq. So far the Bush Administration has been too afraid of the anger
they might provoke by re-instituting a draft. Instead they are offering
huge incentives, including scholarships and cash pay outs to get young
people to sign up. With parents angry about education cuts, families
outraged at the senseless death of their loved ones, and students
already having some success in confronting recruiters now is the time
build a movement that keeps our kids from supporting and dying in an
occupation that the city is against. Money for colleges not for recruitment!

The 9/11 Omission Report: John Judge to speak on current events
Freedom Archives 522 Valencia St @ 15th / 16th SF
“The events of 9/11 have been used as a pretext for the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, and have become a symbol of an end to democracy.” John Judge says. He will be speaking on 9/11, addressing the findings of the 9/11 Commission and many things you want to know but are not sure how to ask. He will address the deceit that the Bush administration uses to make huge war profits and rob domestic institutions, like social security, in order to finance a permanent war economy. Peter Dale Scott, recently returned from Thailand, will open the program.

With brutal honesty and a touch of irony, The End of Suburbia explores the American Way of Life and its prospects as the planet approaches a critical era, as global demand for fossil fuels begins to outstrip supply. World Oil Peak and the inevitable decline of fossil fuels are upon us now, some scientists and policy makers argue in this documentary. What does Oil Peak mean for North America? As energy prices skyrocket in the coming years, how will the populations of suburbia react to the collapse of their dream? Are today's suburbs destined to become the slums of tomorrow? And what can be done NOW, individually and collectively, to avoid The End of Suburbia?

9/11 the Road to Tyranny An Axex Jones Documentary
Humanist Hall 390 27th Street between Telegraph & Broadway

midtown Oakland Presented by Erin McCann
The mainstream media is whitewashing and lying about what really happened on September 11th 2001. This film is shaking the foundations of Washington D.C. as the definitive film on what really happened on September 11th and who stands to gain. The US government needed a crisis to convince the people to willingly give up their liberty in exchange for safety. Now the painful facts are in. The dark forces of global government are funding, training, and protecting terrorist networks worldwide. This Alex Jones’ film documents the ruthless history of governments orchestrating terrorist attacks against their own people to scare them into total submission. In this brutal expose you will witness the birth of a global police state that surpasses Orwell’s nighmarish vision. It’s all here: the history of government-sponsored terrorism, the modern implementation of fear-based control and, most frightening of all, the New World Order’s future plans. This is one film you cannot afford to ignore. The future of free people everywhere is at stake.
Before and after the film, everyone’s invited to indulge in our Humanist Coffee House.

Redefining Our Relationships
A RADICAL LOVE WORKSHOP
with Wendy-O Matik
Author of the book, Redefining Our Relationships- Guidelines for Responsible Open Relationships
$10 – $20, sliding scale
http://www.wendyomatik.com
This is a daring and provocative how-to workshop on radically defined relationships and alternative lifestyles. Wendy-O Matik talks about what she has lived and experienced: open relationships. She believes that open relationships reduce the hazards that accompany unhealthy co-dependency. Open relationships challenge us to confront our jealousy and possessiveness. Committing to a relationship not mapped out by our parents or society or Hollywood means tearing down the very foundation of status quo and conformity. It means redefining and rebuilding your own version of an alternative relationship based on your needs and your values.
Loving openly and freely in this day and age, whether you're straight or queer, is a political act. We are conditioned by out-moded social norms that limit our perceptions and shackle us to unhealthy cycles of dissatisfying relationships. Yet we live in a time where we can choose our own gender or redefine our own sexual identity. Isn't it safe to assume that we also have a right to decide what kind of relationship is more suitable to our lifestyle? Declare yourself a revolutionary activist of the heart. Find out how you can expand your potential to love, and radicalize your lifestyle!

# BURNING SOLSTINOX — March 5
On Saturday night March 5th, your burning friends from across the Bay will converge at SOMArts in SF to celebrate Burning Solstinox, the mid-point between burns. Do NOT miss this one - we’ll be halfway home. http://burningman.com
# Burning Solstinox: Connections – Sat Mar 5
8PM-4AM @ SOMArts, 934 Brannan St in SF
http://solstinox.com/
Once a year, on the midpoint between burns when we are farthest in time from any, we come together to celebrate Burning Solstinox - a holiday of hope, rebirth, love and the creative thrill of radical participation, when we experience playa joys in default. This year’s theme is “Connections”, and we invite you to create some by making magic with us in an amazing space. Don’t miss this one; we’ll be halfway home!
We do this all volunteer, totally non-commercial, and following the 10 Burning Man principles, so radically include yourself and participate. Help create an outrageous evening in a burning village that will keep that rocking playa vibe alive for another six months - there’s no better way to switch your psyche from its vault of dusty memories to new visions of chaos.
This year’s event is a FUNraiser benefit for Friends of Curtis, and we’ve lined up the area’s best DJ’s, dazzling lighting, insane lasers, eye-popping visuals, blacklit bars, super cozy chill spaces, and lots of special playa style amusements sure to please all your senses. Plus, a raffle & silent auction for one-of-a-kind burner gifts and experiences, and even free coffee when it’s time to go! Every bit of it gifted, by burners for burners. All proceeds go directly to saving this burning musician’s life and voice from cancer (http://www.friendsofcurtis.com).
$15.93 presale, $20 at the door. There’s no ATM; bring extra cash for amusements, bar & raffle.
For advance tix and info, visit http://www.solstinox.com; email participate@solstinox.com to help!

Marcia goes into Law history, including how the legal basis for law changed in the civil war; into
territory on the credit and debt system and how the government "borrows" money from the federal
reserve using our birth certificates as collateral; into the difference between substance and
credit - that you have both a real self and a commercial self; into the international commercial
code, which stands above the law of nations.
We are offering this class free of charge, by invitation only.
STANDING IN PEACE, HOW TO LIVE WITHOUT FIGHTING
An afternoon with Marcia Doerr, legal expert, educator
For 144 years, since Abraham Lincoln, the North American continent has been a nation "occupied"
by the expression of "war powers" and its resultant "commerce."
Let's discuss the implications of how that relates to YOUR life today.
* Learn how you can "choose" between being a debtor or a creditor
* Do you prefer to be a Sovereign or a Taxpayer (deal with the IRS)?
* Are you a Private or a Public "person"?
* Configure yourself to be a Traveler or are you a Driver? Guess which
one pays traffic fines!
* The meaning of Honor/Dishonor in law (and in daily life).
* How do you find your Self and resolve the fundamental conflict when your heart wants Peace in a
world at war?
