# Support Grand Jury Resister Thurs. 8/17 8:45am
The government has used the secret grand jury process to threaten, assault,
and try to destroy progressive movements that challenge the ruling powers.

Grand juries have attacked former Black Panthers, Puerto Rican independence
activists, animal liberation folks, earth liberation activists, Arab, Muslim
and South Asian community members, independent journalists, global justice
organizers, and more.

Some people, like Nadia Winstead below, refuse to be intimidated into
becoming an arm of a repressive government. If you're in the Bay Area, can
you spare some time this Thursday 8/17 to come stand in solidarity with her?

Wherever you are, you can help support folks who take a principled stand
against the abusive grand jury. Click to http://www.fbiwitchhunt.com to
learn more

Email mailto:info@fbiwitchhunt.com if you can donate to pay for food, legal,
health and other expenses that our neighbors need to keep fighting the
fight.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Please Forward:

We will be gathering at 8:45am tomorrow at the Federal
Building (450 Golden Gate) to show our support for Grand
Jury resister Nadia Winstead. Details of the case below:

On Thursday, August 17, at 9:00 a.m., animal advocate
Nadia Winstead is scheduled to appear before a federal
grand jury at the Federal Courthouse (450 Golden Gate
Ave.). Winstead had appeared before the grand jury earlier
this year, whereupon she asserted her right to remain
silent. Although she was released from that subpoena
before the term of the grand jury expired in March, she
was re-subpoenaed in July to a newly-formed grand jury.
As she did previously, Winstead is expected to exercise
her Constitutionally-protected right to remain silent, an
action for which she could face an indefinite period of
incarceration.

This federal grand jury is the second to be convened in
San Francisco, ostensibly to investigate the possible
concealment of Daniel Andreas San Diego. He is a suspect
in a series of actions from 2003 that were aimed at local
pharmaceutical companies with ties to Huntingdon Life
Sciences, an animal-testing lab that is the target of an
international animal rights campaign.

While Andreas San Diego may be the nominal target of the
grand jury, activists see this as merely another excuse
for the government to harass and intimidate their
movements as part of the current Green Scare. In the
past year, grand juries have been convened in Eugene,
Denver and San Diego in order to investigate environmental
and animal liberation activists under the guise of
quashing terrorism. Most social activists, however, see
the investigations as part of a greater move by the
federal government to silence dissent.

As Winstead has said, These actions represent an attack
by the federal government aimed at straining our
resources, breaking our resolve, and are indicative of a
renewed wave of repression directed against all social
change movements.

Winstead is neither a target of the grand jurys
investigation, nor has she been charged with any crimes,
but she has stated her resolve to continue to resist the
grand jury system she sees as inherently unjust: I refuse
to cooperate with this or any other grand jury, regardless
of the consequences.

The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and
the American Bar Association have both recognized the need
for dramatic reform of the grand jury system in the United
States. Although grand juries were initially designed to
protect citizens, they have ironically since devolved into
instruments used to persecute activists and pursue
political agendas.

PEACE!

# Taking Aim Event August 17 in Berkeley
Please spread the word - distribute widely
Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone discuss: Apocalypse Now - The U.S. and
Israeli Master Plan for the Middle East.

Also, to be shown for the first time in the Bay Area: "The War in Lebanon:
An Inside View" including harrowing photos of the 1982 Sabra and Shatila
Massacre.

Thursday, August 17 from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. at the Unitarian Universalist
Fellowship Hall, 1924 Cedar St., at Bonita Berkeley, CA,. $10 suggested
donation. No one will be turned away for lack of funds. For more information
call 707.552.9992 or write takingaim@pacbell.net

Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone, producers of the national radio show “Taking
Aim,” present a dramatic exposé of the current wave of U.S. coordinated and
Israeli mass slaughter in Gaza, the West Bank and Lebanon. They discuss in
compelling and heart-rending detail the U.S. and Israeli murderous agenda,
its timetable and the collusion of client Arab regimes in targeting the
peoples of the region.

From Rafah to, Ramallah and Nablus, from Bint Jbail, Tyre, Sidon and Beirut
to Tripoli, from 1947, 1967 to 1982 and now, an ongoing genocide has been
unleashed – part of a plan to visit the identical agony on the people of
Syria, Iran, Iraq and the region.

This murderous agenda proceeds under the cover of the false category of
terror for which 9/11 was planned, implemented and orchestrated by the U.S.
ruling class and its Israeli cohorts.

Heralded authors of “The Hidden History of Zionism,” “Prisoners of Israel”
and “Homage to Palestine,” Schoenman and Shone, reveal through first hand
testimony and shocking visuals the wholesale massacre and mass expulsion
that emptied Palestine of its population in 1948 and was repeated in an
identical operation in Lebanon in 1982.

In 1982-83, Schoenman and Shone lived in the Palestinian refugee camps as
these were reduced to rubble. They documented the round-up by the Israeli
invaders of males from ages 7 to 70 across Lebanon and took 6,000 affidavits
from the victims’ families. They witnessed and made a photo record of the
mass murder and the mass graves from Ain El Helweh, Rashidieh, Bourj al
Burajneh to Sabra and Shatila in Beirut.

Schoenman and Shone draw from their experiences in Palestine and Lebanon,
their testimony presented to the United Nations, Foreign Ministers and to
the Nordic Commission in Oslo, Norway as well as their years of advocacy on
behalf of the Palestinian struggle for self-determination.

Ralph Schoenman was Secretary General of the International Tribunal on U.S.
War Crimes in Indochina. He worked with Malcolm X with respect to the battle
for the Congo and has negotiated the release of political prisoners in many
countries. He was the Executive Director of the Committee in Defense of the
Palestinian and Lebanese Peoples and the Committee for a Democratic and
Secular Palestine. He is the author of “The Hidden History of Zionism,”
“Iraq and Kuwait: A History Suppressed,” and co-authored with Mya Shone
“Prisoners of Israel” (report for the United Nations) and “Homage to
Palestine.” Ralph Schoenman and Mya Shone co-produce “Taking Aim with Ralph
Schoenman and Mya Shone” heard weekly on Pacifica’s WBAI-NY and nationally
on the Progressive Radio Network.

Mya Shone is an economist and has a long history as an activist involved in
political, community and labor issues. She worked closely with Casa
Nicaragua and Casa El Salvador during the struggles taking place in Central
America, was the coordinator of the Tri-County (Santa Barbara, Ventura, San
Luis Obispo) Labor Party chapter and co-coordinator of the Open World
Conference in Defense of Trade Union Independence and Democratic Rights. She
was the coordinator of the Committee in Defense of the Palestinian and
Lebanese Peoples and the Committee for a Democratic and Secular Palestine.
Mya Shone was also an award-winning documentary filmmaker as well as a
newscaster at KPFK in Los Angeles.

Ben Gurion and the Final Aim:
(an excerpt from "The Hidden History of Zionism" by Ralph Schoenman,
available from Veritas Press – see http://www.takingaim.info and Amazon.com)

In 1938, David Ben Gurion, who became the first Prime Minister of the
Israeli state, wrote in a letter to his son: "A partial Jewish State is not
the end, but only the beginning. I am certain that we can not be prevented
from settling in the other parts of the country and the region."

In 1937, he declaimed: "The boundaries of Zionist aspirations are the
concern of the Jewish people and no external factor will be able to limit
them."

In 1938, he was more explicit: "The boundaries of Zionist aspirations," he
told the World Council of Poale Zion in Tel Aviv, "include southern Lebanon,
southern Syria, today's Jordan, all of Cis-Jordan [the West Bank] and the
Sinai."

Ringling Kills 4 Baby Elephants In 8 Years
Bertha dead at a few months of age.
September 2005: Ringling did not announce Bertha's birth or death.

Riccardo dead at 8 months of age.
August 4, 2004: Ringling claims he fell off a 19-inch-high-round platform. After making Riccardo suffer all night with two broken legs, Ringling took him to a hospital the next morning where x-rays revealed "severe and irreparable fractures." Riccardo was killed that day.

Benjamin dead at 4 years of age.
1999: Drowned in a pond while attempting to avoid "trainer" Pat Harned, who witnesses said "poked" Benjamin with an ankus. A USDA investigator concluded that seeing and/or being "touched" or "poked" by Harned with an ankus caused physical harm and lead to Benjamin's death. This incident was videotaped but Ringling requested the USDA not release it to the public.

Kenny dead at 3 years of age.
1998: Ringling elephant "trainers" Gunther Gebel-Williams and Mark Gebel, against veterinarian orders, forced Kenny, who was bleeding from his rectum, to perform. Kenny died later that day after passing a large amount of blood from his rectum.

Ringling routinely uses ropes and chains to separate 18-month-old-baby elephants from their mothers. USDA told Ringling that this practice violates Federal law; Ringling defended it calling it "industry standard."

In the wild female elephants never leave their mothers; males leave at about age 13-15 years.

Chained Most of Their Lives
Elephants in the wild can roam up to 50 miles a day. Ringling keeps elephants chained by 1 front and 1 back leg for most of their lives; the rest of the time they are confined in small barren pens in parking lots.

AXOLOTL
directed by Karl Frost, Aug 18 &20

A participatory performance experience, psychological and kinesthetic: be blindfolded for 2 hours of exploration of self and other. Explore in interaction with other audience members and a group of actors, dancers and musicians researching the nature of
meaning. Not a singular event on a stage, Axolotl is a multiplicity of events occurring simultaneously in the minds of the members of the audience...

…" infantilizing and weird and extremely interesting. I highly recommend it." -ANNIE WAGNER, The Stranger (Seattle 2004)

"I left the theater shell-shocked. It was easily the oddest, most surprising performance experience I've ever had. And, against all expectations, one of the most rewarding. " -BRENDAN KILEY, The Stranger (Seattle 2005)

RITUALS OF THE INNER CIRCLE
directed by Felix Ruckert (Berlin), Aug 19

You are invited to join a temporary structured society exploring issues of power, status, and intimacy. Within a set of predetermined rules, we live out our curiosities, seeing what exists in our physical/emotional edges.

Ruckert questions the nature of live performance, allowing the spectator to play an active role in the performance, confronting him/her with intense emotion. Radical and controversial propositions of his have ranged from interactive experiences with the audience to pieces of pure choreographic research. Addressing the audience as individuals, he borrows the codes of well-known social activities and transposes them into performing spaces: the brothel (Hautnah, 1995), the art gallery (Stillen, 2000), the night-club (deluxe joy pilot, 2000), the underground itineraries of sexuality (SECRET SERVICE, 2002), the party (Love Zoo, 2004). Strong concepts, well thought rules-of-the-game and elegant esthetics give a strong frame to the Felix Ruckert's shows, that allow active artistic and emotional input from the performers as well as a safe cocoon for the spectator’s reactions.

Performers:
Isabelle Kirouac, Tanya Stotsky (Canada) Dasniya Sommer, Elske Seidel, Felix Ruckert (Germany) Claudia Anfuso, Laura Inserra (Italy) Ayano Oride (Japan) Andy Lundberg, Cammie Kelly, Karl Frost, Kim Harmon, Kincaide Reed, Leslie Castelano, Liz Erber (US) and guests...

8/19: DEPT OF PEACE CAMPAIGN MEETING...
Something positive to do... creating what we DO want -- to be in place when this house of cards falls...
If you are not in the SF Bay Area, you might want to get on the mailing list for information bulletins...and how you can help create the U.S. Department of Peace. http://www.dopcampaign.org. There are local groups all around the Bay Area working on this campaign. You can find one at the website.
Several cities in the U.S., like Berkeley, San Jose and others have passed resolutions supporting the creation of the U.S. Department of Peace.
...and read more about the Department of Peace, and read the legislation itself, at http://www.dopcampaign.org. You'll find out that peace (and the DoP) begins and is addressed by the DoP, not only in foreign policy, but in our homes, our schools, our communities, our prisons...and our country. This is the most amazing thing we could do for peace. And it creates a U.S. Peace Academy.

# Jerry McNerney for Congress
Dear Friends,

Please help save our country (and the planet).

This November we have an excellent opportunity to replace one of our worst Congressmen with a man of high integrity and strong environmental values. Jerry McNerney, a wind energy specialist, is challenging Richard Pombo, an anti-environmental zealot, for the Congressional seat representing San Ramon, Pleasanton, Lodi, Tracy, and most of Stockton.

Please join us at a fundraiser for Jerry McNerney in Palo Alto:

Sunday, August 20, 6:30pm – 8:00pm
At the home of Tom & Sharon Wagner
914 Matadero Court, Palo Alto

Jerry McNerney is the perfect candidate to take on Pombo. In the late 1970s, Dr. McNerney recognized our country’s need for a diversified energy supply and changed careers to serve that need. His innovations helped create the wind power industry we know today.

In 2004, Jerry recognized another need and took action. He ran against Pombo and did better than any challenger in that district since 1994. Jerry never stopped campaigning, and in a hard-fought primary this year, Jerry won a three-way race with 52.6% of the vote, getting almost twice as many votes as his main opponent, who outspent him 2-to-1.

Jerry wants to lead the nation away from the grip of foreign oil and transform the district into the “Silicon Valley of renewable energy.” This is our chance to make a real difference, in one of the key races nationwide.

Please join Jerry at an event hosted by Tom and Sharon Wagner at their lovely solar home in Palo Alto. Jerry looks forward to sharing his views and hearing what is important to each of you.

Sunday August 20, 6:30pm – 8:00pm
At the home of Tom & Sharon Wagner
914 Matadero Court, Palo Alto
Supporter: $100
Student/Low Income: $35

Event Sponsors: Peter Drekmeier and Carolyn Curtis
Please RSVP to Don Mayall – seleve@ix.netcom.com – 650-856-7579.

If you are unable to attend, but would like to volunteer or contribute to Jerry’s campaign, please visit http://www.jerrymcnerney.org or mail your donation to McNerney for Congress, PO Box 12022, Pleasanton, CA 94588.

Radical Love & Relationship Workshop Tuesday, August 22 8:00 PM
Location: Good Vibrations 1620 Polk Street (at Sacramento Street)
San Francisco, CA view map More Info: (415) 345-0400
 8PM, $20, sliding scale, everyone welcome http://www.goodvibes.com

Workshop Description:
At a time when our nation is determined to keep us on the warpath, what better time to raise our voices against intolerance, hatred, and violence? At a time when our government propels us into a new dark age of fascism, what better time to talk about radical love, or the right to love who we want, how we want, and as many as we want? Loving openly and freely in these times, whether you are straight or queer, is a brave political act. We have been conditioned by outdated social norms that limit our perceptions and shackle us to unhealthy cycles of dissatisfying relationships. Yet we also live in a time when we can choose our gender and redefine our sexual identities. Don’t we then have the right to decide what kind of relationship best suits our lifestyle? Declare yourself a revolutionary of the heart. Find out how you can expand your potential to love, transform your lifestyle, and together we can threaten the social forces of patriarchy!

Wendy-O Matik is the author of Redefining Our Relationships: Guidelines for Responsible Open Relationships. As an educator, role model, and spokesperson for the polyamory community, Wendy has become a revolutionary activist of the heart. Since the release of her book, she has taught over sixty Radical Love & Relationship Workshops globally, excavating important social trends and reshaping the future of alternative relationship models for the 21st century. As an activist for social change, Wendy is pushing the boundaries on firmly rooted notions in mainstream society on relationships, love, gender, sexual equality, and sexual politics. She is available for educational and motivational discussions on the topic of alternative relationship models and responsible non-monogamy.

)'( GREENING THE BURN-- Taking the climate-changing heat out of the burning
of the Man!

Burners Without Borders has collaborated with the brainiacs at
CoolingMan (http://www.coolingman.org) to figure out the climate change
impact of burning The Man, and how to "offset" that impact, making the
burn climate change neutral.

CoolingMan estimates that the burning of The Man will generate
approximately 100 tons of greenhouse gases (GHG). To more than
neutralize these emissions, CoolingMan is seeking 110 tons of GHG offsets.

Offsets come in variety of ways. You can plant a tree, which is good for
one ton, or buy a ton's worth by investing in renewable energy projects,
like wind and solar. Buying a ton is anywhere from $5 to $10, and we're
estimating high so we can make sure we're able to meet our goal.

Cool it forward by going to http://www.coolingman.com to help us
completely offset the impact of the burn before the start of Burning Man
2006--there you can also figure out your theme camp's impact, and offset
that as well. It's easy, cheap, and makes a huge difference. Be sure to
report your participation to CoolingMan so they can track and then
report on our progress.

We're off to a great start! We've already received $180 in donations,
enough to offset at least 18 tons!

)'( 2006 LNT TOUR OF THE CITY )'(

Leave No Trace Tour of the City wants YOU!

Each year we enjoy the fruits of a clean, beautiful, well organized City
and come up with better ways to manage our trash and play, eat, and
sleep in comfortable camps. We can be proud of the fact that Burning Man
is one of the largest Leave No Trace events in the country. We create a
temporary City in the desert, then help it disappear.

Now in its fifth year, the Leave No Trace Tour of the City features camp
showers, kitchens, trash management, grey water systems, good neighbors,
and repurposed structures. Model camps provide working examples for
those of us looking for ways to camp smarter at Burning Man.

A number of camps are returning to Burning Man with the same basic
structure or materials used in previous years. High traffic camps are
finding ways to minimize imported trash by planning ahead. Grey water is
being managed with an increasing number of solutions.

Model camps can feature any practice or technology. Theme camps of all
sizes and types are encouraged to join and need only be a registered

Fort Fed Up. Organizers intend the camp to bring together peace

occupation of Iraq, and will demand that Congress hold the Bush
Administration accountable for the falsehoods that launched the war
and the abuses of power here at home that have accompanied it. Camp
Democracy is launching an outreach effort to include organizations
in the planning of the camp's activities, which are all in the
initial stages. Organizations already on board are listed on the
website:

# September 11-12th, 2006- 9/11 Film Festival

Premiere of new film of David Ray Griffin- "9/11 the Myth and the Reality"
September 11, 2006, 6:30 pm
Grand Lake Theater
3200 Grand Lake Avenue
Oakland, California

Doors open at 6:00 each night, trailers, previews and shorts start at
6:30, film premieres start at 7:00. Q & A / discussion with the
filmmakers follows each night.

This will be the world film premiere of David Ray Griffin's talk given
at the Grand Lake Theater March 30, 2006 to a sold out audience.
Griffin's presentation was videotaped with six cameras, and 9/11
filmmaker Ken Jenkins has illustrated the film with hundreds of
graphics and clips. This video will likely become not only the
definitive Griffin DVD, but will likely serve as the Loose Change for
the older generations. Griffin condensed the highlights of his first
two books on 9/11 into a dynamic presentation. A slightly shorter
version of the same talk was given April 3rd at the prestigious
Commonwealth Club in San Francisco, and much of the footage in the
film is from that location. The premiere will be followed by a
question and answer session with filmmaker and 9/11 activist Ken
Jenkins

This is from a founder of Veterans for 9/11 Truth http://www.V911T.org
This Sept 11, 2006 a new era will dawn on America. On that day the
people will convene and move through the legal recourse needed to
redress the government. At no other time in our nations history has so
important a moment drawn near. As the war of lies passes the $500
Billion debt mark and 3000 US dead along with 100,000's in the nation
we "saved", as freedom and liberty has been sold out to a federal
police force, as all Americans have been affected by corporate and
limited liability governments and municipal codes, time has come for
the change

# Film- 9/11 Guilt: The Proof is in Your Hands September 12, 2006 6:30 pm
Grand Lake Theater 3200 Grand Lake Ave Oakland, California

Doors open at 6:00 each night, trailers, previews and shorts start at
6:30, film premieres start at 7:00. Q & A / discussion with the
filmmakers follows each night.

In August 2005 Jim Hoffman and Don Paul recorded presentations for the
second convening of the Los Angeles Citizens' Grand Jury on the Crimes
of September 11, 2001. Later they spent many hours with videographer
Celestine Star adding photographs, footage, and other graphics to
document their assertions. The result is 58 minutes of compelling
evidence and analyses.

My brother was arrested after one hour at burning man
by "fake art car" driven by undercover feds ...they
convinced him to make a trade to of natural
substances he had for them giving him a ride across
the playa...then he was arrested..he spent the whole
burn in jail. Also some other people i know were
arrested by feds on a different under cover art er
feds ..car...some people i know were also given
tickets after smoking pot with topless informants.
FYI these are under cover feds...not cops cause its on
Federal land any way its a huge undercover sting
...and there will also be cops in uniform . the art
cars that busted people last yr were a golf cart
decorated with plastic flowers dragging a surfboard
and also an ice cream truck... and bwhere of dogs too
be warned!!!
...i dont want any more family going to jail its very
serious especially in NV...
yes it sucks that we have to think about this stuff
even in our city of freedom.

Last time I went in '04 I ran into some dude who got busted for giving this persistent art car driver (golf cart w/ a "?" on the hood) lady some shrooms. She begged and pleaded and seemed genuine so he felt generous and gave her enough for herself. Within 2min of driving off he was apprehended and later he found out the _exact_ same scenario happened to other people. Cripes!

greetings, if you think they serve any purpose but to keep the status quo in power you need a reality check. instead of you sigestion about marking them, you should beat the living shit out of them until they leave and don't come back. they want to be proactive , you must be proactive. form your own militias and kick their asses out. stop living like second class citizens or you'll always be sheeple...arm yourselves and resist this tyranny... rod

If the BLM Jail us for smoking a medicine called Marijauna, or Cannabis, or THC
we should treat the BLM like we treated the Redcoats.
How exactly does repression like this fit into the scope of "Bureau of Land Management" ?

Is this not the same phony "Bureau of Land Management" that is
destroying our public lands and fouling our water by grazing cattle?

"Every collectivist revolution rides in on a Trojan horse of 'emergency'.
It was the tactic of Lenin, Hitler, and Mussolini. In the collectivist

of the subsequent steps. This technique of creating emergency is the
