The State of California exempted California’s mercury law due to what they say is a shortage of mercury-free flu vaccines used in pregnant women and infants, despite the fact that the company that manufactures and distributes the mercury-free vaccine (Sanofi Pasteur) repeatedly informed the MSJ that the shortage “does not exist.” Instead, SP said there is a slight “delay in shipment,” but that there is “no shortage.” Both California and New York have used the “shortage” as a reason to allow mercury-containing flu shots to be administered to pregnant women and infants."
