Dear Washington Post. The issue is NOT "accuracy of social media campaigns and the growing difficulty in discerning fact from fiction." The issue is that fraud is being used to push this story of kidnapped girls to build public support for a military intervention in Nigeria that the US Government has been planning since 2008. The government of Nigeria reported two weeks ago that the girls had already returned home (then retracted the claim under pressure from the US Government).
Let us recap.
The US Government lied when it claimed a Spanish mine sunk the USS Maine in Havana Harbor to trick Americans into the Spanish American War.
The US Government lied when it claimed the Lusitania did not carry military cargo to trick Americans into WW1.
The US Government lied when it claimed there were torpedoes in the Gulf of Tonkin to trick Americans into Vietnam.
The US Government lied when it claimed Saddam Hussein had nuclear weapons to trick Americans into war with Iraq.
The US Government lied just last August when it claimed Assad gassed his own Alawite supporters with a banned chemical weapon virtually in front of UN chemical weapons inspectors on the very day they arrived in Syria. Fortunately, the American people realized that one was a lie and the planned invasion of Syria has neen thwarted, at least for the moment.
How much more must you be lied into wars before you realize ALL wars are started with lies, fraud, and deception?
