Was Cheney Hiding His Honey-Bunny?
I just hate myself for being a rumor-monger. But I can't help myself either. Sirius radio's Alex Bennett just broke a rumor that the delay in reporting the news that Cheney shot an old man in the heart was due to an effort to hide or spin Cheney's female companion. Could this be Cheney's Lewinsky?
Pamela Willeford (see photo), ambassador to Switzerland and Liechtenstein, was part of the hunting excursion with Cheney and Whittington. And according to Willeford's account, Cheney and the ambassador were side-by-side when the shooting of Whittington took place. Rumor also has it that there was drinking involved.
The vice president's Secret Service detail had to decide what to do with Willeford by way of perhaps covering up her relationship with Cheney, and thus the delay in reporting the news.
The rumor goes that Lynn Cheney isn't happy with Cheney's close relationship with Willeford.

Michael Chertoff spent umpteen hours preparing a 520 page report to tell Americans that the Katrina Massacre was "A Failure of Initiative."
A "Failure of Initiative" occurs when a high school's star quarterback goes out and gets wasted the night before the big Homecoming Football Game. I refuse to believe that any American with even half an ounce of common sense believes that a mere "Failure of Initiative" is what went down with Katrina.
Our government fully KNEW that a big storm was coming. They fully KNEW that the levees were going to fail (or, as many claim, would be purposely "helped" to fail). There was no "failure" whatsoever to prepare for such an event. Our federal disaster agencies and our military both knew PRECISELY how to help save these people from imminent death, and they PURPOSELY made the conscious and deliberate choice of inactivity in "NOT recognizing Katrina's likely consequences!"

Calif State Legislature Passes Anti-Patriot Act Resolution, 20060216
The State Senate voted 23-10 this morning, February 16, to pass the Resolution calling for Congress to repeal of the unconstitutional provisions of the USA Patriot Act.
Since the resoultion was passed by the State Assembly, this means that the resolution has passed the State Legislature and a letter will be sent to Congress requesting repeal of the unconstitutional sections and that it directs the state agencies to not use any resources to enforce any unconstitutional sections of the Patriot Act.
California has now joined 6 other states in passing similar resolutions.

2/16: Protest Golden Gate Bridge Suicide Barrier
The Golden Gate Board of Directors will vote on wasting $2 million that could otherwise be spent on increasing public teacher salaries or acquiring new pieces for the Museum of Modern Art or building an additional unit of affordable housing or any number of good public projects. Instead they want to py special-interest "consultants" to determine the best design for building a prison on or around the Golden Gate Bridge, which will ultimately cost in excess of $60 million. To pay for this project, they are proposing raising the fees of crossing the bridge at their next meeting scheduled for February 16. Below is one proposal for a suicide barrier design:

In response to the growing concerns around climate change and the end
of cheap oil, Post Carbon Institute has launched an exciting new
project called Bay Area Relocalize. The project is assessing our
region's use of resources and developing a model for local
communities to bring the production of our food, energy and essential
goods closer to home. We are connecting with neighborhoods,
businesses, and community groups to mobilize around reducing our
consumption of resources from outside the region and replacing them
with local resources. Examples include creating community gardens,
installing solar panels on homes and businesses, capturing rainwater,
improving public transit, and building affordable homes nearer to
where we work. This 2-hour event hosted at the Ecology Center will
feature a panel of presenters from the project and Q&A. Proceeds will
benefit the Bay Area Relocalize project.

Scientists predict that the giant Pacific leatherback sea turtle, which has survived unchanged for over 100 million years, could vanish in the next 5 to 30 years, if current threats from wasteful industrial longline fishing are not curtailed. The female nesting population of leatherback sea turtles in the Pacific Ocean has collapsed by 95 per cent in the past 20 years. The leatherback is the largest sea turtle, measuring nine feet from head to tail with the largest ever recorded tipping the scales at 2,000 lbs.
Last Journey for the Leatherback? is a hard hitting documentary that combines science, activism and rare footage of endangered sea turtles, to tell the gripping story of sea turtles, the new icon of the ocean environmental movement. Sea turtles are quickly reaching the status of dolphins and whales and conservationists are becoming increasingly alarmed and active in their fight to save these gentle giants, and to stop the wide-spread impacts on the world’s ocean ecosystems.

On Friday, February 17, 2006, Supervisor Ross Mirkarimi hosts the monthly
Third Friday’s Art Reception in his City Hall office, Room 282. This
month’s featured artist is Malik Seneferu.
Malik Seneferu, Black / African American painter, draughtsman, muralist,
and book illustrator, employs self-taught technique and style.
Seneferu has lived, worked, mentored, and curated throughout the San
Francisco Bay Area. Seneferu's work has traveled to Durban South Afrika’s
“War against Racism” in 2001; it has also gone to Haiti and Kenya. His
artistry, which contains intense hues, are reminiscent of the ancient
African Diaspora, along with confident and eloquent messages of
empowerment. His work ranges political, social and spiritual issues
within Black communities worldwide.

Created in 1951, the American Academy of Asian Studies was one of the first institutions to introduce the philosophies of Vedanta, Taoism, Zen, Sufism, and other Eastern spiritual traditions to the Bay Area. Among the Academy’s key scholars was Dr. Haridas Chaudhuri of Bengal, who was a student of the Indian philosopher Sri Aurobindo. In 1968, Dr. Chaudhuri and his wife, Bina, founded what is now known as California Institute of Integral Studies.
In the early 1950s, painter Gordon Onslow Ford was among Dr. Chaudhuri’s first students at the American Academy of Asian Studies. He also studied with Alan Watts and Roshi Hodo Tobase. He and many other artists were greatly influenced by the Asian philosophies presented at the Academy.
After Onslow Ford’s death in 2003, the Lucid Art Foundation, a nonprofit California arts organization, was the recipient of Onslow Ford’s extensive art collection. This exhibit features the work from the 1950s of a selected group of artists from that collection, many of whom were inspired by Eastern philosophies. The exhibition also addresses the work of the Dynaton group, comprised of artists Onslow Ford, Lee Mullican, and Wolfgang Paalen, who simultaneously launched a new art movement.

Extraordinary, but true. All the world Buddhist traditions have united to
promote this tour of the remains of ancient Buddhas, including Shakimuni
Buddha and Milarepa. The world tour began in 2001 and will be in San
Francisco on Friday thru Sunday at Tse Chen Ling Buddhist Center. The
purpose is to raise awareness about a gigantic 500ft Buddha Statue being
built as a new symbol of World Peace in one of India's holiest spots. Check

I have already seen the relics and have to say I was skeptical before I
went. However the energy from the shrine is one of the most powerful
experiences I have ever had... The organizers put pillows around the space,
because so many people are moved to sit and pray for world peace.

Board of Supervisors' Chambers at Marin Civic Center. Lynn Woolsey will preside, Sen. Sheila Kuehl has been invited, and we hope to have numerous other legislators present. The object is to tell them what's wrong with our health-care system and to demand a system that works. There will be many people testifying. These hearings are being held around the country with the support of Rep. John Conyers; it's all part of building an irresistible groundswell for a single-payer system.
This is all part of building the mass movement that we will require before we can hope that a single-payer system will pass. There are too many monied interests opposed to expect that mere good will and good sense could overthrow the disastrous system we have today. Like civil rights, like the anti-tobacco movement, we must first have a sea change in public thinking.

A film festival favorite, The Witness has won seven Best Documentary awards and one Best of Festival award. Hello to all!
I have never distributed anything on my tribe network before, but this is the kind of thing that might be the little kick that one of you is needing. There’s a personal development workshop coming up the weekend of February 25th and 26th at WholeBody Wisdom in Oakland.
I’ve been working privately with the instructor and can attest to the soundness of what he communicates. He has the ability to connect with students at whatever level they’re able to work from and draw out of them a grounded strength that they didn’t even know was being hidden. His teachings focus on the alignment of our different bodies (heart, mind, soul, and sexuality), releasing energy caught up in shame and fear into a unified voice of love. This is his “Inspiring Masculine Presence- Unleashing Feminine Fire” workshop- the one that I hear referenced most by his previous clients.
I’m going to be doing this workshop with my partner. It’s not specifically a couple’s thing, but we decided to take this step in our growth together.
It’s also not for everyone. But for those it is for, it will be invaluable.
I would recommend at least checking out what Scott does with his practice. When we’ve plateaued in our development it can be invigorating just to see that this kind of empowerment work is happening nearby.

How a Public Art Project is Helping to Preserve Our Urban Forest – One Photograph at a Time

Celebrate Arbor Month with a lively presentation by artist Samuel Yates on how The Color of Palo Alto incorporates technology, contemporary art, environmental protection, and public service into one award-winning public art project that helps maintain our urban forest.
The presentation will focus on how the City of Palo Alto will use the project to:
• Respond more accurately and efficiently to daily tree inquiries from residents.
• Coordinate tree maintenance decisions between departments.
• Assist the building permit application, smart planning, and tree verification process.
• Preserve city trees by reducing root system destruction.
• Reduce pollution and natural resource use.
• Promote the City’s environmental and renewable energy initiatives.
• Create the nation’s first photo-assisted 911 emergency response system.
As part of a public art project, artist Samuel Yates photographed each of the 17,860 properties in Palo Alto to find the average color of each property, street, and neighborhood. The final results, including "The Color of Palo Alto," will be unveiled later this year and used as paint, font, and product colors thereafter. The potential city benefits emerged in 2001 when the artist offered Palo Alto a free license to use his photographs and tie them into the citywide parcel data system.
San Francisco Magazine named it the "Best Art Project in the Bay Area;" Dwell Magazine gave it their "Nice Modernist" humanitarian award; and the San Jose Mercury News called it "The Great Palo Alto Art Experiment." Come see for yourself what it’s all about!

Overview
This 14th edition of the Digital Be-In combines its lineage of invention and cultural evolution marking the dawn of the digital age with the emerging green economy and sustainable culture movement. Producer Michael Gosney (whose Verbum magazine began the Digital Be-In during the late 1980s) developed the Paradox conferences on sustainable communities at Arcosanti, Arizona in 1997, 1999 and 2001 http://www.greencenturyinstitute.org/paradox.htm and formed the Green Century Institute in San Francisco in 2002. Planetwork, founded in San Francisco by Jim Fournier and Elizabeth Thompson in 1998, fosters the creative application of digital tools for positive global change through a series of conferences and monthly forums in major cities. The Green Century Institute and Planetwork are working with several San Francisco Bay Area groups that were involved in the seminal World Environment Day week in San Francisco June 5–11, 2005 http://www.wed2005.org in the development of this combination daytime symposium, evening rally/celebration and late night dance party. As in the past, the Digital Be-In will reach beyond the physical event with a live netcast, information-intense website and new kinds of exposure and interaction via social networks and blogs. The unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America,
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness. --That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, --That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. Prudence, indeed, will dictate that Governments long established should not be changed for light and transient causes; and accordingly all experience hath shewn, that mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the forms to which they are accustomed. He has refused his Assent to Laws, the most wholesome and necessary for the public good.
He has forbidden his Governors to pass Laws of immediate and pressing importance, unless suspended in their operation till his Assent should be obtained; and when so suspended, he has utterly neglected to attend to them.
He has refused to pass other Laws for the accommodation of large districts of people, unless those people would relinquish the right of Representation in the Legislature, a right inestimable to them and formidable to tyrants only.
He has called together legislative bodies at places unusual, uncomfortable, and distant from the depository of their public Records, for the sole purpose of fatiguing them into compliance with his measures.
He has dissolved Representative Houses repeatedly, for opposing with manly firmness his invasions on the rights of the people.
He has refused for a long time, after such dissolutions, to cause others to be elected; whereby the Legislative powers, incapable of Annihilation, have returned to the People at large for their exercise; the State remaining in the mean time exposed to all the dangers of invasion from without, and convulsions within.
He has endeavoured to prevent the population of these States; for that purpose obstructing the Laws for Naturalization of Foreigners; refusing to pass others to encourage their migrations hither, and raising the conditions of new Appropriations of Lands.
He has obstructed the Administration of Justice, by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary powers.
He has made Judges dependent on his Will alone, for the tenure of their offices, and the amount and payment of their salaries.

He has kept among us, in times of peace, Standing Armies without the consent of our legislatures.
He has affected to render the Military independent of and superior to the Civil power.
He has combined with others to subject us to a jurisdiction foreign to our constitution and unacknowledged by our laws; giving his Assent to their Acts of pretended Legislation:

He has abdicated Government here, by declaring us out of his Protection and waging War against us.

He is at this time transporting large Armies of foreign Mercenaries to compleat the works of death, desolation and tyranny, already begun with circumstances of Cruelty and perfidy scarcely paralleled in the most barbarous ages, and totally unworthy the Head of a civilized nation.
He has constrained our fellow Citizens taken Captive on the high Seas to bear Arms against their Country, to become the executioners of their friends and Brethren, or to fall themselves by their Hands.
He has excited domestic insurrections amongst us, and has endeavoured to bring on the inhabitants of our frontiers, the merciless Indian Savages, whose known rule of warfare, is an undistinguished destruction of all ages, sexes and conditions.
In every stage of these Oppressions We have Petitioned for Redress in the most humble terms: Our repeated Petitions have been answered only by repeated injury. A Prince whose character is thus marked by every act which may define a Tyrant, is unfit to be the ruler of a free people.
Nor have We been wanting in attentions to our British brethren. We have warned them from time to time of attempts by their legislature to extend an unwarrantable jurisdiction over us. We have reminded them of the circumstances of our emigration and settlement here. Here is a suggested possibility of a proper response to retain your
rights to not be searched and seized by the USA corporation or local
agent offering to "protect" you.
Option of a possible response based upon my and others' understanding
and reading of court findings revolving around exactly at what point
you give up your Constitutional non-search & seizure rights:
In the real world, asserting your rights politely usually only works if
your rights are respected by a higher-up who knows the legal score, and
you answer no question ever. Not in detention, not in jail, ever. At
some point someone somewhere in the chain knows this truthful
information - while the practical full loss of all rights in an
executive dictatorship for our own good is not in effect.
"How are you today, sir?" This is a trained ploy to elicit 'proper'
response without the officer even knowing why. He is not told the whole
truth and is simply told to start the investigation by asking...so as
to "be friendly."
Any answer or giving up of documents at any point makes you
"participating in an investigation" - unless you answer ONLY in the
form of a QUESTION.
Example: smile, and politely ask "Who is asking and why?"
This immediately determines the encounter status and
whether the person is acting in their private or public capacity.
If you ANSWER, you have automatically given up all rights. Once given
up, they cannot be restored. Because "Once you testify in part you must
testify in whole."
If taken against your will, you can come back later and win.
Be friendly, be polite.
"I respectfully do not consent to this encounter. If I had and gave you
such documents can they be used against me in a court of law?
Would you please inform your supervisor what I just said? Am I free to go?"
(Immediately determines your status.)
Theoretically, this applies not just to airports, but roadblocks,
traffic stops, street encounters = they are all the same.
