Good evening Bay Area Burners!
We hope you’ve gotten caught up on sleep the past couple weeks, because we’ve got some seriously amazing events heading our way!
First, there's a Burner get-together this Thursday at Monarch! With folks from half a dozen camps mingling about, this is a great way to meet fellow Burners, get involved with a project or camp, and get a little feeling of Home.
Next, San Francisco Burnal Equinox is going down at Public Works on Saturday, March 7th. With over a dozen DJs and silent disco, interactive theme camps setup, and a full house of amazing Burners, this showdown of fun helps kick off the season.
Finally, Vau de Vire is back with another round of their legendary performance The Soiled Dove! Starting March 13th and running through April 14th at InnerMission you’ll wine and dine and feel like you’re back in the Barbary Coast days, where danger and decadence go hand-in-hand.
We’ll see you out there, Burners!

To Our Beloved Santa Cruz Burners and Burners around the Bay Area:
Many of you have asked — is UnSCruz happening at the Santa Cruz County Fairgrounds this year? The short answer is no, unless we can get people to take on a few key leadership roles this year. Is it you?
If this sounds interesting, read on! We need to hear from you by February 17th. Email brianp43@yahoo.com.
Good news is: We have a budget, and we have the dates (May 1st—3rd)!!
Here’s the long answer: UnSCruz — Santa Cruz County’s Regional Precompression — has the potential to become a fantastic fixture in Northern California’s burner culture. The county fairgrounds makes it an amazing place for camping, for music that can go into the wee hours, for fire performances and fire art — all on lush green lawns with beautiful countryside as a backdrop.
Last year UnSCruz took months of planning under the leadership of our Santa Cruz Regional Contact and event producer, Brian Pridham, and a handful of talented and passionate leads. It was a smashing success with 900 people — everyone loved it. Some leads are not able to help this year, and we simply can’t ask others to bear the burden of their posts alone.
We’re expecting numbers to increase by at least 50% this year. Last year there was a volunteer shortage for the event, and with our hope to extend this to a 2-night campout this year, that shortage will get even more dire.
Santa Cruz County is small — only a population of 280,000 as compared to the millions of people in San Francisco and Oakland. This means a smaller Burner base to pull from, plain and simple.
So while we have the funds and the venue, if we don’t have people with experience in leadership, communication, event production, and coordination, UnSCruz isn’t going to happen.
We need lead support, but most importantly now we need a few people to step up to be part of the executive team.
HERE ARE OUR IMMEDIATE CALLS FOR PARTICIPATION:
CO-EVENT PRODUCER — Brian Pridham is returning as event producer, but now lives in Orange County taking care of family. He is looking for a co-producer to help coordinate the troops in the Santa Cruz. Looking for excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as organizational skills, collaborative attitude, and ability to make important decisions and run meetings.
SAFETY/SECURITY LEAD aka “Master of Things That Kill People” — Coordinate with local police, fire, Rangers, and security staff to establish safety, fire, and security protocol and perimeter of the event. Ranger/Gate/DPW experience highly preferred.
BAY AREA VOLUNTEER LIASON — A positive, communicative, well-connected Bay Area burner to recruit talent from Bay Area burner communities to help with UnSCruz day of and for key lead roles such as sound, placement, and front gate.
We also need leads for many departments: Publicity and Placement being two of the most crucial.
We’re asking on the Santa Cruz and Bay Area burner communities to get in touch with us by February 17th and commit to offering your unique talent and expertise to make UnSCruz a permanent fixture and sustainable event.
With so many great events like San Francisco Decompression happening beautifully every year, we know UnSCruz has this potential. Help us make it a reality.
Yours in Dust,
The Santa Cruz Burners
