MONTEREY, Calif. —The Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center and Presidio of Monterey were in the middle of conducting a training drill on how to handle emergencies and casualties when a real emergency happened.
FBI agents and U.S. Army officials evacuated the Presidio at 10:30 a.m.
The real danger was posed by a man who made threats and a suspicious vehicle, according to a Tweet written by a Presidio of Monterey spokesperson.
At 11:20 a.m., the spokesperson Tweeted, "Suspect is in custody and being questions. Verbal threats were made and are being investigated."
The DLI sent out this message Friday morning, "The previously reported training exercise has been suspended as the Presidio responds to an actual incident in progress. Access to the installation will be difficult. We recommend those without need to be on post reschedule. The evacuation of selected buildings is in progress. Franklin Gate remains closed. There is no immediate threat to the local community. We just ask for your cooperation in not coming to the Presidio at this time."
The Defense Language Institute is a United States Department of Defense educational and research institution.
Friday morning's training drill was focused on how to land helicopters to airlift critically injured victims or causalities.
