Petition in Support of Grazing Retirement Legislation
Last year Congressman Adam Smith (WA-9) introduced the Rural Economic Vitalization Act (H.R. 3432)
http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c112:H.R.3432.IH:/
which would facilitate the voluntary retirement of federal grazing permits.
Among the benefits of such legislation are reduced conflicts between
ranchers and wildlife (e.g., wolves, coyotes, mountain lions), lessened
environmental impacts, reduced taxpayer subsidy of the federal grazing
program, and allowing ranchers to realize real estate value in their
grazing permits without the need to sell their private property.
We would like Washington Senator Maria Cantwell to sponsor a companion
bill. A petition urging her to take this action has been installed at
http://www.change.org/petitions/senator-maria-cantwell-sponsor-the-rural-economic-vitalization-act
I have produced a short video in support of the petition:

I encourage you to sign the petition and to promote it, along with the
video, to everyone who may find the matter of interest.
