Have you been wondering why 2016 Burning Man ticket sales were so delayed this year? The State of Nevada’s decision to start taxing BRC citizens (for entertaining ourselves) is a big reason. Burning Man was informed last Thursday that their argument against this tax ruling has been denied. While ticket prices will not go up this year, an already-planned increase in parking passes will go into effect for 2016. Read more here: http://journal.burningman.org/2016/02/black-rock-city/ticketing/whats-up-with-tickets-for-2016-we-have-answers/
So, now we can all come out of hibernation and start making plans for the theme camps, art projects, and general shenanigans that make our playa time so meaningful.
The Man burns in 205 days!

South Bay Guild Artists Meeting – Wednesday, February 24th in Santa Clara
In 2016, the Burning Man will be surrounded by a public square, a piazza lined with workshops, each representing a guild. Our guilds, unlike the traditional guilds of Florence, will be self-invented and devoted to the interactive manufacture of whatever participating artists and inventors can imagine. The Burning Man Project has again invited our regional communities to join in this effort.
2016’s event theme is Da Vinci’s Workshop, and the vision for the piazza is a series of bustling enclosures in which participants can select a new skill to learn, tool to operate, material to play with, contraption to design or some other hands-on learning experience — and perhaps even to depart with the fruits of their labor to keep as a memento, or offer as a gift to others.

Do *you* have an idea for a guild to represent Silicon Valley? Let’s put our thinking caps on! Proposals are due March 1st, so we have a small window to brainstorm and write a submission. I will host a meeting next Wednesday but in the meantime, we can start an on-line discussion to gauge interest and see if there are enough people to staff something like this while we’re on-playa. South Bay Town Hall Meeting – Sunday, March 6th in Sunnyvale
2016 marks my 10th year as the South Bay’s Regional Contact. Over the years, we’ve had more activities, welcomed more theme camps into the fold, and seen more people organize burner get-togethers than ever before. We’ve grown to over 1700 members on our Facebook page! But, there’s only so much one person can do ….
The 2016 Town Hall meeting will have two agenda items:
Co-regionals and succession planning: who are the emerging community leaders?
SoulFire planning: can we keep doing it with a skeleton crew? Will 2016 happen?
MEETING: Wednesday, Feb 24th
WHEN: Sunday, March 6th at 4:30pm
WHERE: Sunnyvale Community Center, 550 E Remington Drive, Sunnyvale
Facebook Event: https://www.facebook.com/events/170055260037549/

SoulFire Precompression – Friday, June 24th – Sunday, June 26th
We have a date booked for SoulFire Precompression! But … our volunteers are far outnumbered by the number of campers. Participation is sorely needed in lead roles for things like art grants, medical liaison, communications, finance, volunteer coordination, logistics, theme camps, etc. etc.
Who’s been doing all of this? One person --- it’s time to delegate! We also always need help with placement, greeters, rangers and LNT and I deeply thank the Team Leads who have been responsible for those areas.
So, if you’d like to come and play at SoulFire, think about being one of those people who makes SoulFire happen, too. Without more people to step up and take some responsibility SoulFire may not happen this year. Come to the Town Hall meeting and find out what you can do!

Host a Regional Contact – Housing Request for BMan Global Leadership Conference Guests
The Burning Man Global Leadership Conference (GLC) returns to San Francisco in 2 months. Hooray!
The 10th Annual (that's right, a full decade) GLC is a milestone for the Burning Man Regional Network. As Burning Man’s flagship educational event, the GLC brings together Regional Contacts and community leaders from around the world for four playful, celebratory days of skill-sharing, knowledge exchange, and relationship building to promote leadership and community development around the world.
We are seeking hosts for our out-of-town participants for this meeting of the minds, which starts on Thursday, March 31st and ends on Sunday, April 3rd. Some visitors may arrive as early as Wednesday evening and may leave as late as Monday morning.
Staying with a local member of the community adds so much to GLC attendees' experience. Can you help us? If you are interested in welcoming a GLC guest into your home or have questions about hosting a guest, please email katelyn.lyster@burningman.org. Katelyn will follow up with instructions. Thank you!
With appreciation,
Burning Man Global Leadership Conference Planning Team
