"Arkangel" discusses toxic parenting and helicopter parenting through Marie, a helicopter parent who decides to place an implant in her young daughter, Sara, that tracks her every move. Marie uses Arkangel on her tablet and uses the tracker's functions to blur Sara's vision whenever she sees something gory, inappropriate, or stressful.
Sara is eventually able to break free of Marie's control by knocking her mother unconscious with her tablet, but she is only this violent because she's unable to see what she's doing, thanks to Arkangel's blur vision feature. When she destroys her mother's tablet, Marie is no longer able to track Sara. By the end of the Black Mirror episode, Sara is able embrace the outside world without any restrictions. |
