Now new research from Pen Test Partners shows just how vulnerable these ships are to new dangers from hacking–including being steered off course and sunk–thanks to their use of always-on satellite communications and general lax security practices on board. Pen Test Partners (PTP), a penetration testing and security services firm, demonstrated a number of methods for hacking into the satcom systems of ships, which can allow bad actors access to shipboard systems and wreak potential havoc for the vessels and the shipping industry. PTP researchers applied expertise in IoT, automotive and SCADA hardware security to a Cobham (Thrane & Thrane) Fleet One satellite terminal and demonstrated various methods of intrusion this week at Infosecurity Europe, as well as published their findings online. “Ship security is in its infancy–most of these types of issues were fixed years ago in mainstream IT systems,” PTP consultant Ken Munro wrote in a blog post outlining its finding. “The advent of always-on satellite connections has exposed shipping to hacking attacks. Vessel owners and operators need to address these issues quickly, or more shipping security incidents will occur.” The latest research builds upon some poking around on satcom networks connected to ship terminals that Munro did last year that showed how vulnerable ship security is, likening them to industrial control networks, “but floating.” In its new research, the firm demonstrated and published online what it believes is “the first ever VULNERABLE ship tracker” by linking version details from a satcom terminal to live GPS position data, Munro wrote. “Two public data sets have been linked, so we now have a clickable map where vulnerable ships are highlighted with their real time position,” he said. Researchers deliberately didn’t refresh the data in use so it can’t actually be used by hackers but do plan to update it at a later time. One reason it’s so easy to hijack the satellite communications of a ship and take admin rights on the on-board terminal is that many terminals are available on the public Internet and have default credentials “admin/1234” or “admin/12345,” which are obviously quite common and easy to guess, Munro said. The PTP team also managed to hack a ship’s satcom terminal hardware, which had admin interfaces over telent and HTTP and, upon closer inspection, unsigned firmware, he said. Moreover, the team also could edit the entire web application running on the terminal, something that also can be leveraged in attacks. Hackers with a bit of access also could elevate their privileges by installing an older, more vulnerable version of the firmware because there was no rollback protection for it, Munro said.

Ukraine had walked into a meeting at the White House on Friday prepared to sign a mineral deal with the US, hoping it would be a step towards a just ceasefire, but left empty-handed. The Norwegian Minister of Defence has contacted the Express to make clear the country’s official position is one of cooperation with the US. Norway’s Minister of Defence Tore O. Sandvik told the Express: “We have seen reports raising concerns about support for US Navy vessels in Norway. “This is not in line with the Norwegian government’s policy. I can confirm that all requested support has been provided. The U.S. and Norway maintain a close and strong defense cooperation. For fully 14 months, the Netanyahu government maintained the fiction that the mother and two children were still alive. When their bodies were returned, IDF spokesperson Daniel Hagari dismissed Hamas’s statement that they had been killed in Israeli airstrikes as “lies”. He brazenly lied that they “were brutally murdered by terrorists in captivity in November 2023”. Hagari said they were killed “in cold blood” with “bare hands.” He added, “Afterwards, they [the terrorists] committed horrific acts to cover up these atrocities”, involving mutilating their corpses to simulate death during an Israeli bombardment. He called on the world to condemn the “barbaric act of terror” committed against the youngest Israeli hostages. Hagari claimed this was based on both forensic evidence and intelligence but provided not a single scrap of evidence to support this. Israeli officials later said that the children’s mother Shiri had been similarly “brutally” murdered by her captors in November 2023. The next day, Dr Chen Kugel, head of the Israeli Institute for Forensic Medicine, issued a short video that purported to back Hagari’s claim. But instead of presenting supporting evidence, he merely claimed, “There is no evidence of harm due to bombing”, without saying what they did die of. Netanyahu followed with a speech to soldiers at an officer graduation ceremony. He declared, “They [Hamas] murdered Shiri and her children in cold blood… they choked the young children with their bare hands, and if they only could, they would murder us all with the same cruelty.” Netanyahu’s claims were widely regurgitated and amplified uncritically by the domestic and international media to whip up a foul atmosphere, with the Israeli government using this barefaced lie to whip up another anti-Palestinian “atrocity” campaign.

John Loftus takes a look at the Bush family involvement with the US/Nazi integration at the end of WWII – America’s Nazi Secret: An Insider’s History Paperback – by John Loftus (Author) In 1948, many believed that a Soviet attack on Western Europe was imminent. According to one retired government official, the entire American intelligence community was put on a war footing. Wisner’s job was to plan an underground network of commando units to slow down the Communist advance, and then to guide allied forces in an invasion.<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da9gjmzddq4> To serve as the nucleus of his guerrilla forces, and to spearhead the invasion, Wisner would recruit those Nazi collaborators who had performed similar duties only a few years earlier for the Third Reich. Wisner was ordered to use his underground agents to overthrow the Communist-imposed governments, if possible, without overt American intervention. To accomplish these goals, Wisner was hired by the State Department as head of the Office of Policy Coordination. The OPC charter (National Security Council directive 10/2) was sweeping. Wisner’s efforts to counter the Soviet threat were limited only by “deniability,” the proviso that if any of his operations were blown, the Secretary of State should be able to plausibly disavow any knowledge of his activities. His weapons included propaganda, economic warfare, sabotage, and subversion against hostile states, including assistance to underground resistance groups in Eastern Europe. Wisner was particularly intrigued by this last part of his charter, concerning the recruiting of an anti-communist guerrilla army and turning it loose upon the Soviet Union. He had come to Germany to lay the groundwork for this force. Before being ordered to leave Bucharest by the victorious Red Army in 1945, Wisner had compiled a list of Romanians opposed to the Soviet Union. Among them were Nazi collaborators and members of the Iron Guard, a fascist organization noted for its hatred of Jews. Now, he was engaged in expanding his lists of anticommunist zealots, and it would soon include many accused war criminals from all across Eastern Europe. Wisner’s staff secretly made contact with leaders from four different Nazi ministries who had directed the activities of collaborators in Eastern Europe during the war. First was Gustav Hilger, a diplomat from the Nazi Foreign Office who had served as Hitler’s Russian expert. Hilger had helped to plan the invasion of the Soviet Union and had worked with SS Intelligence late in the war to build an anticommunist army of collaborators. Wisner also recruited Hilger’s counterpart in the SS: Obersturmbannfuehrer Friedrich Buchardt, chief of Émigré Affairs for the SS, who had worked his way up from commander of a mobile killing unit in Byelorussia. He too had used local Nazi collaborators to advantage. The third man to supply information to Wisner was Professor Gerhardt von Mende, a deputy in the Nazi Ministry for the Occupied Eastern Territories who had favored using Islamic collaborationist politicians to establish a network of Nazi puppet governments as a wall against the Russians.

ZDF says in the documentary: ‘Sources say that Kammler was captured by the Americans and interrogated by the US Counterintelligence CIC. The secret service man responsible was Donald Richardson, a personal confidant of allied supreme commander General Dwight D Eisenhower.’ The sons of the secret service man told programme makers that their father was in charge of the German weapons expert after 1945. One of them, John Richardson, said: ‘This engineer brought a special treasure from the Third Reich into the United States. Now the glare of the media is back on Clapham Woods, 35 years after three dead bodies first put the village under the spotlight Charles, of Western Place, Worthing, expects a revival of interest in the area’s mysterious past when the show is broadcast on Tuesday night. But when that flash of curiosity fades, he will still be there – as he has been for the past 30 years. He and colleague Wayne Lewis, spend every day looking for clues to the existence of the Friends of Hecate and stakes out the woods at night, once a month. Charles believes the group has been using the woods for satanic ceremonies involving the sacrifice of animals. He also links in four mysterious deaths in the Seventies, including that of retired Clapham vicar the Reverend Harry Neil Snelling. The 65-year-old vicar went missing from his Steyning home on October 31, 1978. His skeletal remains were found three years later near Wiston Barn on the South Downs. An inquest recorded an open verdict. In their book The Demonic Connection, Charles and co-authors Toyne Newton and Alan Brown, suggest he was a victim of satanic foul play. Charles started researching reports of missing dogs and UFO sitings in the early Seventies. Other people have claimed to have felt sick, suffered stomach cramp, vertigo or felt an eerie presence, while in the woods. A mysterious phone call one evening in 1978, was Charles’ first major breakthrough. Someone claiming to be from the Friends of Hecate summoned him to a meeting at a crossroads in the woods. A booming voice addressed him from behind a bush, telling him the group was set up in Sussex 30 years earlier. He was told how they met in Clapham Woods once a month and sacrificed animals, mostly dogs, to the Underworld goddess Hecate. Charles said: “Maybe he was a dissatisfied member of the group who wanted it exposed. Or maybe he was warning me to go no further. ” In February 1996, Charles and an animal welfare campaigner found a well-constructed hide buried in the woods. A hidden door opened into two rooms which he thinks were used for rituals. Charles has tried to work out which dates in the year are most likely to be marked with black magic rituals. But he and his fellow investigators have never managed to time their woodland visits to coincide with a ceremony.
