I Climbed Golden Gate Bridge naked fog climb base 200’ 1995 1996 ish

Foggy day SF as I approached SF Golden Gate Bridge, naked on my normal, 1 mile bouldering par course route of swimming, wading, bouldering, jogging, walking jogging sprinting through waves From North end of Baker Beach as nude is allowed from Baker beach to Bridge on Federal NOS.gov Land. Park Presidio SF

I noticed a water drain pipe adjacent to the erector set arch under Golden Gate Bridge over Fort point Southwest corner so I

Shimmied up the water pipe onto the erector set jungle gym, then transferred over to the west cable of the Golden Gate Bridge with sand grip paint, and two lesser cables for handrails throughout the erector arch into the concrete block, structure north of Fort point, which I navigated in the dark slowly with my hands stretched out in front of me, so as not to bump my head then I

Emerged north of this concrete block to find a catwalk under the bridge, which I walked to the south tower of the Golden Gate Bridge

That was just day one

DAY TWO

I met a couple other guys on beach to whom I spoke of my adventure, so they joined me

At the south tower catwalk, they noticed, and pointed to a manhole cover, leading UP to the west sidewalk of the Golden Gate Bridge, SF

So I said, I’m naked!

One of the guys gave me his T-shirt, which I put on AS pants upside down, dipping my feet through the arm holes, then tying off the waistband around my waist in a knot.

We emerged up to the manhole cover and walked south on the west pedestrian walk of the Golden Gate Bridge, which this century is only for bicycles.

None of this would be possible after 911 as security cameras and Leo’s law enforcement officers from many agencies would be on my case rapidly post 911

Epiloge GG BRIDGE REINFORCEMENT post 911

Post 911 millions of dollars and years of construction work occurred to reinforce the Golden Gate Bridge including addition of 2 inch thick steel plates, sandwiching concrete surface of cement block building north of Fort Point anchored by 2 inch? 3”? 4”? steel studs buried deep into concrete case building welded together

Entire replacement of two steel towers south of Fort point, supporting span of Golden Gate Bridge south of cables in concrete block

Including earthquake resistant, huge rubber discs the size of the entire front section of a car, a.k.a. one or 2 m in diameter, 1 m tall, possibly in case within lower steel cradle enclosure of each tower times four per tower equals eight rubber donuts to absorb earthquake shock, supporting weight of south span of non-suspended bridge

Giant rubber, baby buggy, bumpers

Replacement of first three sections of steel on lower framework of arch North and South lowermost sections of arch. dismantling previous easy to climb erector set beams with more difficult to climb, solid plate, faced steel extruded, beams with occasional two or 3 foot frequency, spaced port holes which could be used to stick a hand or a head, but Make climbing more difficult.

If you look today, you can observe the steel of the first three lower sections of the arch art different from the 1934 through 1937 erector set looking arch in the middle. This then are the new post 911 construction steel beams.

Presence of cameras, security forces, and National Guard with M4 rifles and Hummers of note after 911 also seen at entrances to SF Bay and San Mateo, Hayward bridge, although as budgets subsided

M4 rifle semi automatic national guard troops in camouflage with Hummer were replaced by same with Saturn SL four sedan produced by GMC Chevrolet

As time progressed after 911 National Guard disappeared, then only reappeared during alerts and or fleet week festivities in San Francisco

I could write about the several times we were chased off by National Guard with M4 rifles, one pointing his rifle scopes at us

Early 2000 decade post 911

On one hot warm summer solstice day with abnormal low tide dye ventured to the Golden Gate Bridge as usual from Baker Beach and observed another 10 or 20 men had walked back from the bridge. Also enjoying this low tide no wind, summer solstice hot day.

So I walked on the beach tide zone, sand wet west of the Golden Gate Bridge as far north as one could on the land that is San Francisco because on this day we did not observe any National Guard 100 feet on top of the concrete Block building south of Fort point

Oops

We had to turn around though, and walk back as they did appear on national guard in camouflage with bulletproof vest, boots, and M4 rifle, pointing his rifle at us, looking through his scope, and just circulating with his arms while yelling at us, apparently motion with his hands to move south

I could not hear his words as he was very far away, but in my mind, I would assume he might’ve been saying something like

Get off the beach, you naked hippies

Subsequent days I would watch their actions and I would not go past the fence above on the granite platform 15 or 20 feet above sea level

Although I did understand, legally, we are allowed to walk the coast of California on the tide line per California coastal commission
I would avoid this on days when I saw National Guard

Again, I was only on the sideline, knowing doubt shout not climb up upon the granite structure, man-made

Several times, I did observe National Guard hair, walking out from Fort point then south on the West flank of the concrete, suspension block, anchor mooring to the cyclone fence where they would stop

One day two, National Guard hopped down onto the beach, walking south of the cyclone fence no trespassing barrier

This was less comfortable of a situation so we all kept walking south at our one4 mile to 1/8 of a mile distance from the two National Guard

The next day I spoke to other beach who informed us the two National Guard, walked through the boulders and rocks and notified other beach covers not to travel north or some

This was highly unusual. I felt ambivalent with mixed feelings, thinking these poor guys might’ve been suffering sweating in the hot sun wearing bulletproof, vests and full camouflage uniforms, carrying heavy gear, including M4 rifles, ammunition and helmet other equipment. Therefore, some extent I assumed they might enjoy comedy breaks of chasing naked hippies off the beach, although on the flipside who knows it’s really hard to believe a National Guard to believe that hippies were national security threat but then this was post 911 2001

OMG, naked hippies they’re gonna pee on the bridge get them!

Dead Sea Lion

On another day, on the beach south of the cyclone fence I was trying to observe a dead sea line washed up on the beach to see if it had any identification tags from the marine mammal center as then, I would call it in at

415 289 SEAL
As I had done before stranded sea lion in distress On Marshall Beach or Golden Gate Beach between Baker Beach and Golden Gate Bridge Late 1990s or circa Y2K

But, alas, a National Guard appeared around the corner, walking briskly towards me, so I mosey on south

On a previous day, I had called Marine mammal sanctuary to report a stranded sea lion on peach, as I observed motorboat, propeller scars, healed up on sea lions.

Marine mammal sanctuary informed me to tell all other beachgoers not to feed him as he is just begging. This specimen had been hit by a motorboat earlier in his life then learned injured on sure humans would feed it. Learned to beg for food. Humans are not supposed to give food to marine mammals. It is a crime. Humans must maintain 50 feet space Away from any sea mammal. By law in California. Not sure if that’s also federal law.

NAKED MAN DETAINED under GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE

On yet another later day, further passed line 11 I observed a naked white man with much hair and beard under the construction plywood extended decking platforms, extending north and west of the northwest corner of the concrete building point suspension block structure for the Golden Gate Bridge cables

I observed he appeared to be hiding out from these park rangers or sheriffs Olive green at that time, hard to tell which they eventually found him on the beach and walked him out, though not in cuffs

I also talked to another beachgoer in subsequent years, who had a similar experience as he was detained, found on Golden Gate Bridge, taken into custody where he was interviewed in a police station office, where, in the authorities ascertained, he was not a logistical threat to the Golden Gate bridge therefore they let him go. FYI

Man arrested for peeing or jacking off south end of Baker Beach maybe he was just escorted off beach for catching wrong fish or crabs of wrong size Dungeness

As I walk south on Baker Beach, I did observe a man in a blue fisherman’s jacket posted up against a Rockwall of new house construction in Seacliff and as I walked, I wondered if he was peeing or jacking off unknown. Then I sat on a rock by the ocean to watch for dolphins whales, and see mammals.

I observed twonps.gov law enforcement officers engage this man. What was unusual is he showed a card to them from his wallet? But they did not take it. Therefore, I assume this was a fishing license as in 99% to 100% of all cases when police ask for your California ID or California drivers license they actually take it from you. Here they did.

One cop is this man off the beach, not in handcuffs, while the other man took his bucket, west, and north to the ocean, throwing a crab or crabs back into the ocean. Therefore, I remain uncertain as to whether his detainer and escort off the beach was due to taking Seafood catch exposure to the Rockwall of this new stairwell construction with multiple cameras in the backyard coming all the way down to the beach the only such case on Baker Beach SF
