You won't read about this in the Irish press for some reason, but on the 1st of August 2017, Curaçao, a country with approximately 150,000 inhabitants decided to stop fluoridation of its public water supplies.
Why did they decide to stop? The decision to discontinue water fluoridation was because the Government believe that fluoridation is "legally unjustified". You would think that this would be reported in Irish Media given that Ireland is one of only two countries in the world where water fluoridation is mandatory.
In 2014, when Israel stopped fluoridation it was also not reported. In 2003, when Basel, Switzerland stopped water fluoridation, it was not reported. In 1997, when Cuba stopped fluoridation, it was not reported. In 1992, when Kuopio, the only city in Finland with water fluoridation, stopped fluoridation, it was not reported. In 1990, when the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany) after occupation by the Soviets and on unification with West Germany, the decision to stop water fluoridation was not reported. Similarly, when the Czech Republic decided to stop fluoridation in 1990, after occupation by the Soviets, it was not reported. When Puerto Rica stopped water fluoridation in the 1980's, it was not reported. In the 1970s, when the Netherlands, Sweden and West Germany discontinued water fluoridation, it was not reported.
